Landscape Inspector I/II

Join the City of Fairfield’s Public Works department and help maintain the beauty and safety of our community! We are seeking a Landscape Maintenance Inspector (I/II) to oversee district contracts and ensure our public spaces meet the highest standards of quality and compliance. In this role, you will serve as a vital link between the City and our contractors, conducting field inspections of irrigation systems, hardscapes, and diverse plantings while enforcing essential safety and environmental regulations.

Interviews are tentatively scheduled for 3/23 and 3/24.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Landscape Maintenance Inspector I: This classification is the first level in the Landscape Maintenance Inspector series. Employees in this position perform the work, which can be learned with experience on the job based upon previous landscape maintenance experience.

Landscape Maintenance Inspector II: This classification represents the fully qualified journey-level worker in the Landscape Maintenance Inspector series. Positions in this classification are normally filled by advancement from the Landscape Maintenance Inspector I class, or when filled from outside, require prior journey-level work experience. Incumbents are expected to handle most assignments after receiving directions as to end results. Appointment to the higher class requires that the employee be performing substantially the full range of duties for the class and meet the qualification standards for the class.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Majority of work is performed outdoors, with exposure to variable weather. Hazards encountered are those associated with working around traffic, and various chemicals used by the contractors. This position is subject to 24-hour call-out.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work involves prolonged periods of walking, standing, stooping, and reaching.

Landscape Maintenance Inspector I

  • Education equivalent to high school graduation.
  • Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience comparable to a Senior Utility Worker in the Landscape Maintenance division with the City of Fairfield are required.

Landscape Maintenance Inspector II:

  • Education equivalent to high school graduation.
  • Two years of increasingly responsible experience comparable to a Landscape Maintenance Inspector I with the City of Fairfield are required.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Possession of a valid Class C California State Driver's License is required at the time of hire. Possession of a valid equivalent is acceptable during the application process.
