About the Role
- Work with business laptops (Dell/HP/Lenovo) and occasional desktops/convertibles.
- Diagnose complex faults and perform board-level and module repairs.
- Fit OEM FRUs, validate performance, and document all steps.
- Enjoy micro soldering, schematic reading, firmware/BIOS work, and detailed documentation.
Role Summary
- Own advanced diagnostics and repairs for business laptops.
- Perform chip-level and motherboard repairs, source and fit OEM parts.
- Run validation and benchmarking; provide clean handoffs to asset fleet.
- Comfort with micro-soldering, hot-air, schematics, firmware/BIOS, and strong documentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Triage & intake: Visual inspection, POST, firmware/UEFI checks, baseline OS/hardware health.
- Advanced diagnostics: Multimeter, thermal camera/logging, power analyzer, vendor diagnostic suites.
- Chip-level motherboard repair: Component-level diagnostics and repairs (BGA reflow, SMD replacements, micro-soldering, connector/flex repair).
- FRU replacements: System-board swaps, battery, SSD, RAM, keyboard, hinge, fan replacements; ensure thermal module matching.
- Software/firmware tasks: Reflash/update BIOS/firmware, program service tag/embedded keys, clean OS image + drivers, Windows activation/licensing.
- Testing & validation: Run benchmarks (Geekbench, Cinebench, PCMark, Speedometer), thermal throttling loops, SSD throughput, Wi-Fi battery tests.
- Documentation & traceability: Maintain detailed repair logs including symptoms, tests, part numbers, labor steps, test results, root cause analysis, and photos.
- Inventory & procurement liaison: Raise accurate BOMs, validate FRU part numbers, flag long lead parts, coordinate with procurement/vendor channels.
- Quality & process improvement: Propose and implement test scripts, QA checklists, process changes to increase first-time-fix and reduce TAT.
- Client & internal support: Provide technical support to ops/procurement/QA; explain repair decisions to stakeholders.
- Mentoring & training: Train/mentor L1 technicians; participate in internal training sessions.
- Safety & compliance: Enforce ESD mats, battery handling protocols, safe soldering practices, proper disposal/recycling.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: 1- 6 years in laptop/desktop repair; 1- 3 years chip-level repair preferred.
- Chip-level/motherboard repair: Diagnose and perform component-level repairs; comfortable with BGA reflow, SMD replacement, hot-air/rework stations.
- Diagnostic ability: Troubleshooting hardware faults; reading schematics and OEM manuals.
- Hardware breadth: Battery testing, power rails, NVMe/SSD diagnosis, RAM behavior, thermal module, Wi-Fi/antenna diagnostics.
- Software & firmware: BIOS/UEFI flashing, imaging tools, license/activation flows.
- Tools proficiency: Multimeter, microscope/loupe, hot-air station, soldering iron, bench power supply, USB-C PD analyzer, thermal camera.
- Soft skills: Clear communicator, organized, concise repair logs, coordinate with procurement/operations, customer-facing skills.
- Certifications/education: Diploma/BE in EEE or related; CompTIA A+ or vendor training (Dell/Lenovo/HP); micro-soldering coursework.
- Physical & cognitive: Manual dexterity, attention to detail, repetitive precise work, standing/sitting at bench for long periods.

- Familiarity with OEM FRU catalogs, part number mapping, supplier networks in India.

Work Conditions & Expectations
- On-site full time in HSR Layout, Bangalore; standard office hours, occasional extended shifts.
- Physically: Fine motor tasks, microscope work, lifting/restocking parts boxes.
- Handle consumer hardware with caution (Li-ion batteries, solder fumes); strict adherence to safety protocols.
