Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton LLP, a global Am Law 50 firm, is seeking an experienced Conflicts Analyst.
- This position has a remote work arrangement with the ability to work from home.
The Lateral Conflicts Analyst is a member of Sheppard Mullin’s Office of the General Counsel. Working under the direction of the Manager of Lateral Conflicts and other in-house counsel, the Conflicts Analyst reports on potential conflicts of interest relating to lateral partner and non-partner hiring.
Primary Responsibilities and Expectations
Responsibilities:

Analyze and summarize potential conflicts of interest for further review/resolution by Manager of Lateral Conflicts and in-house attorneys.

Conduct factual research using internal and external resources, which may include researching corporate relationships (using LexisNexis, D&B, web publications and similar public databases) and discussions with attorneys and/or legal support staff to gather information and/or clarification regarding a party or matter.

Perform conflicts research, database maintenance, data entry, and special projects, as requested.

Respond to inquiries timely and effectively.
Essential Functions of Job:

Collaborate with Manager of Lateral Conflicts and attorneys in the Office of General Counsel to research, analyze, and resolve conflicts of interest.

Review lateral candidate conflict submissions and intake forms and ensure completeness and accuracy.

Review searches and reports for lateral attorney and non-attorney candidates at various stages of recruiting process, and/or other new business, using the Firm’s conflicts and intake databases.

Ability to articulate in writing the key findings in the form of a summary or report.

Monitor and address all incoming email to shared department email inbox for urgent requests.
Qualifications and Experience
Required Qualifications:
-
2+ years’ experience within lateral conflicts administration at a mid to large size law firm

Experience with iManage, LegalKey, Intapp, or similar Conflicts administration software
- Basic typing skills (at least 40 wpm)
- Proficiency with Outlook, Word and Excel

Ability to compile, review, filter, synthesize, and interpret information which is varied in content and format

Ability to work independently, exercise good judgment, and make decisions when appropriate

Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply the applicable rules of professional conduct regarding conflicts of interest

Strong research skills using internal and external resources.
- Proven aptitude to quickly learn new applications

Strong organizational skills, including the ability to produce a high quality and accurate work product with minimal supervision

Ability to work effectively with attorneys and staff at all levels

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with clearing/resolving conflicts (i.e. reviewing engagement letters and contacting partners)
Education Required: Bachelor’s Degree
Computer/Software Knowledge
Required:

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications including Word, Excel and Outlook.

Experience with database search systems such as Elegrity (now iManage) E-VALUATE, Legal Key, and/or IntappOpen.
Work Environment
- Working indoors with limited exposure to hazards (only those that customarily come up in working in a high-rise or office building).

Indoor office work environment in a cubical or like workstation.

You will be based in one of our local Sheppard Mullin offices but will be allowed to work from home.

You are required to come into the office on an as-needed basis.

Overtime will be required on occasion as the workload demands.

California: The pay range for this position is $37.00 to $56.00 per hour.
Illinois: The wage range for this position is: $40.00 - $60.00 per hour. This position is eligible for medical, vision, and dental insurance. Please note that the foregoing compensation and benefit information is a good-faith assessment associated with this position only and is provided pursuant to Illinois Equal Pay Act.
Washington DC: The pay range for this position is: $37.00 - $56.00 per hour. Medical, vision, and dental coverage is available, including coverage for dependents and domestic partners. Please note that the foregoing compensation and benefit information is a good-faith assessment associated with this position as of the time of this posting and is provided pursuant to the District of Columbia Wage Transparency Omnibus Amendment Act of 2023.
New York: The pay range for this position is: $40.00 - $60.00 per hour. Please note that the foregoing compensation information is a good-faith assessment associated with this position only and is provided pursuant to the New York City Salary Transparency Law.
