About Us:
Juan Ramos Law Group is a client-focused family law firm serving McAllen, Edinburg, Brownsville, and the surrounding Rio Grande Valley. We handle a wide range of family law matters, including divorce, custody, child support, protective orders, and adoption. We are seeking a motivated Law Clerk to join our team and support both attorneys and clients through high-quality legal and administrative assistance.

Position Overview

The Law Clerk will work directly with attorneys and staff to provide legal research, drafting support, and client service. This position emphasizes client support—helping ensure that clients feel heard, informed, and guided throughout their case.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Client Support & Communication

  • Serve as a first point of contact for client questions and provide status updates under attorney supervision.
  • Assist clients with completing intake forms, discovery responses, and document checklists.
  • Help clients prepare for hearings, mediations, and trials by reviewing logistics and expectations.
  • Translate and explain legal processes in plain language to clients (Spanish proficiency preferred).
  • Schedule and confirm client appointments, mediations, and hearings.

Legal Research & Drafting

  • Conduct legal research on Texas Family Code provisions, case law, and procedural rules.
  • Draft pleadings, motions, discovery requests, responses, and correspondence for attorney review.
  • Prepare summaries of depositions, hearings, or client interviews.
  • Assist in drafting memoranda, trial notebooks, and case chronologies.

Case Management Support

  • Organize case files in Clio Manage and ensure deadlines are properly calendared.
  • Prepare exhibits and evidence packets for hearings and trials.
  • Review and summarize financial records, medical records, and CPS reports.
  • Support attorneys in preparation for mediations and trials, including witness coordination.

Administrative & Team Support

  • Maintain regular communication with courts, opposing counsel, and experts.
  • Assist in drafting and sending correspondence via email, fax, and certified mail.
  • Ensure all client communications are documented in the case management system.
  • Support firm operations by assisting attorneys and staff with special projects as needed.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a paralegal program or undergraduate course.
  • Strong research, writing, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills; bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with sensitive family matters.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with case management software (Clio preferred).
