Position Overview

We are looking for an experienced and highly skilled Lead MS SQL Server Database Administrator to oversee the design, implementation, and management of our enterprise database environment. The Lead DBA will guide a team of database professionals, ensure database reliability and performance, and drive best practices for security, scalability, and high availability. This role requires both hands-on expertise and leadership capabilities to manage critical production systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of Database Administrators in day-to-day operations and long-term initiatives.
• Architect, implement, and maintain MS SQL Server environments (on-premises and cloud).
• Define and enforce database standards, security policies, and best practices.
• Oversee installation, configuration, patching, and version upgrades of SQL Server instances.
• Ensure high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) through technologies such as Always On Availability Groups, clustering, replication, log shipping, and backups.
• Optimize database performance through indexing, query tuning, and proactive monitoring.
• Manage capacity planning, growth projections, and database lifecycle management.
• Collaborate with application, infrastructure, and DevOps teams to support deployments and integrations.
• Drive automation initiatives for database maintenance, monitoring, and provisioning.
• Act as the escalation point for complex database issues and critical incidents.
• Evaluate emerging SQL Server and cloud database technologies and recommend adoption strategies.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (Master’s preferred).
• 8+ years of experience as a SQL Server DBA, with at least 2–3 years in a lead or senior role.
• Strong expertise in SQL Server 2016/2019/2022.
• Proven experience with HA/DR solutions (Always On, clustering, replication, log shipping).
• Advanced skills in performance tuning, query optimization, indexing, and storage design.
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (Azure SQL, Managed Instances, AWS RDS).
• Solid understanding of database security, encryption, and compliance frameworks.
• Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management abilities.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with automation (PowerShell, Python, or SQL Agent Jobs).
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices for database deployments.
• Exposure to NoSQL or other RDBMS (Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL).
• Project management or team leadership certifications (e.g., ITIL, PMP) are a plus.
