Job Purpose

The Assistant Manager – DBA will be responsible for ensuring the 24x7 availability, performance, and security of the enterprise database environment supporting mission-critical applications. This role will serve as a senior technical resource and advisor to project teams, providing expertise in database administration, architecture, performance optimization, and best-practice maintenance.
Job Responsibilities:

Administer, install, migrate, and upgrade Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and SQL Server databases.

Manage and optimize database maintenance activities, including backups, indexing, integrity checks, and consistency verification.
-
Monitor database systems to ensure high availability, reliability, and error-free operations.
-
Diagnose and resolve complex performance issues, including debugging stored procedures, triggers, and packages.
-
Provide operational support to developers, operations teams, and data warehouse teams.
-
Implement database lifecycle management strategies, including archiving, compression, and capacity planning.
-
Perform physical and logical backups, RMAN scripting, restores, and disaster recovery operations.

Configure, administer, and manage Disaster Recovery (DR) environments using technologies such as Oracle Data Guard (ODG), Log Shipping, MySQL/PostgreSQL replication, or cluster-based solutions to ensure business continuity.

Deploy and manage Oracle RAC 12c/19c with ASM, ensuring scalability and resilience.

Apply security patching, bug fixes, and best practices for database security and compliance.

Design and implement high-availability and replication solutions such as Oracle Data Guard, InnoDB Cluster, Patroni, and SQL Server Always-On.

Lead initiatives for database upgrades, large-scale migrations, and performance enhancements.

Coordinate with vendors for support, licensing, and technology adoption.

Utilize tools such as Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid and VERITAS NetBackup for monitoring and backup management.

Contribute to database architecture planning, middleware integration, and infrastructure optimization.

Prepare and deliver comprehensive documentation, technical presentations, and RFPs in support of projects and management initiatives.
Eligibility Criteria (Education, Knowledge, Experience and Skills):
Education
:

Should have Bachelor’s Degree / Equivalent, preferably in Computer Sciences / Engineering.
Work Experience:
-
Should have 5+ years of experience in database administration, engineering, or architecture.

Should have experience in the telecom sector or handling large-scale, high-transaction databases is a plus.

Skilled in Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid.

Strong in performance tuning and troubleshooting.

Good knowledge of backup and recovery using RMAN and VERITAS NetBackup.
