Job Overview
Adams County District Court is seeking a Lead Deputy Clerk to perform advanced clerical and courtroom support work for Othello's District Court. Persons assist with court operations in the absence of the on-site administrator and supports deputy clerks, jury administration, public records requests, payroll-related forms, accounting support, search warrants, and regular deputy court clerk duties.

Your leadership will support the smooth functioning of court proceedings, uphold legal accuracy, and enhance customer service for all stakeholders. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the justice system by maintaining meticulous records, coordinating court activities, and leading a dedicated team of clerks.

Essential Duties

  • Assists the public, attorneys, defendants, and law enforcement by providing procedural information, processing court records, supporting hearings, maintaining case information, and assisting with courtroom operations.
  • Process legal documents, including subpoenas, warrants, summons, judgments, dispositions, and related court paperwork. Process subpoenas, warrants, summons, judgments, dispositions, notices, and other legal documents.
  • Enter infractions and criminal matters, set hearings and court dates, and maintain court records and docket entries.
  • Record courtroom proceedings, maintain logs, process exhibits and orders, and support court sessions.
  • Receive and process fines, fees, bail, and bonds, monitor payment agreements, and assist with collections activity.
  • Coordinate jury-related functions, reports, audit support, and statewide court system tasks, including JIS, JABS, DISCIS, and ETP.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Two years of prior district court work experience or equivalent.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Desired Knowledge and Skills

  • Working knowledge of district court practices, procedures, court rules, and state statutes.
  • Strong clerical, computer, communication, and customer service skills
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure, adapt to changing priorities, and interact professionally with a wide range of personalities.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed in an office environment with frequent public contact, periods of high transaction volume, and prolonged sitting or standing at a counter or workstation.

Salary and Benefits:

  • This is a full-time, benefited position which is currently classified at Range F of the 2025 Adams County Employee Salary Schedule of $24.77- $25.91 hour. Initial step placement at time of hiring is dependent upon prior relevant experience and qualifications.
  • Fully paid employee benefits include medical, dental, vision, and life. Adams County participates in the Washington State Retirement Fund.
