Position Summary
Virginia Mechanical Services is seeking an experienced and motivated Lead HVAC Installation Technician to oversee and perform high-quality residential HVAC system installations. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of HVAC equipment, strong leadership skills, and the ability to complete installations efficiently while maintaining the highest standards of craftsmanship, safety, and customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage HVAC installation of residential/light commercial projects.
- Install, replace, and commission residential HVAC systems including:
- Heat pump systems
- Straight air conditioning systems
- Gas and electric furnaces
- Package units
- Wall-hung HVAC systems
- Ductless mini-split systems
- Air handlers and evaporator coils
- Perform complete system change-outs, new installations, and equipment upgrades.
- Properly remove and dispose of old HVAC equipment.
- Install and modify ductwork, transitions, plenums, and ventilation components as needed.
- Run refrigerant lines, drain lines, electrical wiring, and low-voltage controls.
- Pressure test, evacuate systems to proper vacuum levels, and charge equipment according to manufacturer specifications.
- Start up and test systems to verify proper operation, airflow, refrigerant performance, and overall efficiency.
- Diagnose and resolve installation issues in the field.
- Ensure all work complies with local codes, manufacturer guidelines, and company quality standards.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized job site.
- Communicate professionally with homeowners regarding the installation process and system operation.
- Train and mentor apprentice and junior HVAC technicians.
- Maintain company tools, vehicles, and equipment.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of residential HVAC installation experience preferred, but not required
- Strong knowledge of heat pumps, air conditioners, furnaces, package units, mini-splits, and modern HVAC controls.
- Ability to read installation manuals, wiring diagrams, and basic blueprints.
- Proficient with brazing, soldering, refrigerant charging, and airflow adjustments.
- Experience with duct fabrication and sheet metal modifications preferred.
- EPA Section 608 Certification required.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to lift 75+ pounds and work in attics, crawl spaces, rooftops, and varying weather conditions.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent leadership, time management, and customer service skills.

Pay: $25.00 - $40.00 per hour
