Job Description

Job Title: Teacher – Infant Room

Accountable to: Administrative Assistant,Assistant Director and Director

Works With: Children 6 weeks through 16 months

Hours: 35-40 hours per week; hours vary from 6am-6pm

Monday through Friday

Primary Function:

To work with the director and other staff in planning and implementing a program that meets the emotional, physical, intellectual, and social needs of the individual and group through developmentally appropriate practices in accordance with the policies and philosophy of Little Stars early learning center, LLC as well as abiding by standards set in Rule 3.

Duties and Responsibilities (include but not limited to):

1. Help maintain a safe, healthy environment for the infants.

2. Planning and implementing a daily program.

3. Prepare supplies and equipment for daily routine and curriculum.

4. Supervise and engage with the infant children in various activities.

5. Interact with the infants and encourage their involvement in group activities.

6. Helping with general housekeeping tasks

7. Participate in staff development, training and evaluation

8. Maintain a professional attitude at all times and maintain loyalty to the program.

9. Treat all infants with dignity and respect and allow for individual differences.

10. Attend staff meeting and recommended training programs and conferences. Provide the director with documentation in accordance with state requirements.

11. Maintain appropriate communication with staff, infant children, and families at all times. Maintain an open, warm, and professional relationship with families. Be available for parent/teacher conferences twice a year and as needed. Make sure parents feel at ease with the program.

12. Show initiative in the improvement of early childhood education, the program, and the curriculum.

13. Observe, record, and report significant individual and/or group behaviors/illness, and keep co-workers and the director informed.

14. Establish and maintain good communication with parents through verbal contact on a daily basis, written notes and/or phone conversations, when appropriate. Sensitive issues should be discussed with director before approaching the parents.

Room Responsibilities (include but not limited to):

~ Prepare a warm and safe, loving, nurturing and educational environment that is orderly, clean, appealing and permits the children to grow and explore.

~ Follow a daily schedule

~ Assume responsibility in conjunctions with co-workers for preparing and posting lesson plans and submitting a copy to the director and parent board president

~ Lesson Plans: setting up, facilitating, cleaning up, and developmentally appropriate

~ Directing children’s activities and lessons

~ Professional attitude, appearance and communication with co-workers, parents, volunteers and directors

~ Delegating and directing staff-making sure that they are to work on time, dressed appropriately and follow company policies and procedures

~ Classroom meetings

~ Updating forms, classroom handbooks, etc.

~ Preparing the diapering area for infant children

~ Creating a cleaning and sanitizing schedule

~ Rotating toys, books, puzzles

~ Rotating dramatic play equipment and replacing lost or broken materials

~ Preparing and leading circle time activities, involving all the infants (can be done at different time during the day)

~ Writing a newsletter for the parents

~ Parent/Teacher conferences (spring and fall)

~ Organizing the room:

- Furniture, bulletin boards, parent boards, daily sheets sign-in space, etc.

- Make the room look inviting and friendly for infants and parents

Skills

~ Display a positive attitude toward work and the infants

~ Must be sensitive to co-workers, parents, and infants

~ Must be able to communicate effectively with staff, parents and infants

~ Has the ability to work with infants ages 6 weeks through 16 months.

~ Must be able to supervise and lead staff

~ Be able to provide a loving and nurturing environment where the infants are able to learn and grow developmentally as well as build self-confidence and positive self-esteem.

~ The lead teacher is the model for other staff and the infants. (Behaviors, attitude, self-concept, frustration level, etc)

Job Qualifications

Education: Must have, as a minimum, teacher qualifications as outlined in the DHS Rule 3. (see personnel information form)

Certification:

- CPR and First Aid

- SIDS/SBS (and video)

Continuing Education:

  • Staff persons who work more than 20 hours per week must complete 24 hours of in-service training each calendar year.
  • Staff persons who work 20 hours or less per week must complete 12 hours of in-service training each calendar year.
  • Substitutes and unsupervised volunteers are required to complete 2 hours of training on health and safety topics; mandated reporting; the risk reduction plan; child development and learning, pediatric first aid, pediatric CPR, cultural dynamics; disability training, and child passenger restraint training, if applicable.
  • The number of in-service training hours will be prorated for individuals not employed for an entire year.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $16.50 - $18.50 per hour
