Accountable for the associated Infrastructure strategy/ security strategy and technical product roadmaps across the Lab/Platform. Includes measuring and reporting effectiveness of process improvements to senior stakeholders

Day‑to‑Day, You’ll:

Hands‑on Engineering & Platform Delivery

  • Be hands‑on, building and maintaining hybrid products and services in your specialist area across the Private Cloud Platform.
  • Lead technical conversations with stakeholders of varying levels of technical background, including Senior Management and other SMEs.
  • Drive best‑in‑class approaches to automation, security, standardisation, and operational stability.
  • Act as a strong collaborator across internal teams, external partners, and 3rd parties to deliver outcomes effectively.
  • Provide education and mentorship on infrastructure engineering topics to support teams and drive capability uplift.
  • Be an SME in a key infrastructure domain while continuing to expand your knowledge across the wider hybrid platform.

Backup and Recovery (BUR) – Ownership & Accountability (Embedded)

As Team Manager, you will provide end‑to‑end ownership of Backup and Recovery (BUR), ensuring the platform consistently meets resilience, recoverability, and control expectations.

  • Own and lead the Backup and Recovery (BUR) capability for the Private Cloud Platform, ensuring enterprise‑grade data protection, recoverability, and resilience across business‑critical services.
  • Define, implement, and continuously improve backup, restore, and recovery strategies aligned to availability, resilience, and disaster recovery objectives.
  • Provide end‑to‑end accountability for BUR outcomes including backup architecture, operational execution, tooling integration, monitoring, reporting, and continuous optimisation.
  • Establish and govern restore validation and recovery testing as a routine discipline (not an exception), ensuring recoverability is proven and measurable.
  • Drive alignment to defined RTO/RPO objectives, ensuring recovery readiness is understood, tested, and evidenced.
  • Lead and embed BUR standards, patterns, and controls across workloads and platforms—ensuring consistency, auditability, and sustainability.
  • Partner with Architecture, Security, Risk, and Operations to ensure BUR controls meet regulatory, compliance, and audit expectations.
  • Act as the escalation point for Level 3/4 BUR-related incidents, driving root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and long-term preventative improvements.
  • Champion automation and standardisation to deliver reliable, scalable, cost-effective BUR services while improving platform resilience.

People Leadership & Team Management

  • Provide line management and day‑to‑day leadership for a team of infrastructure engineers, ensuring clarity of purpose and strong delivery outcomes.
  • Set clear goals, priorities, and expectations aligned to platform strategy, and manage delivery commitments effectively.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop colleagues through regular feedback, structured development plans, and hands‑on technical guidance.
  • Build a high-performing culture grounded in collaboration, inclusion, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Manage team health and sustainability by balancing capacity, demand, wellbeing, and technical debt.
