The Lead Prototype Engineer I is responsible for hands-on assembly and testing of engineering prototypes in the development of Cepheid’s next generation medical diagnostic instrument platforms and production systems. This role works within a team comprised of electrical, mechanical, software and optical engineers to design and test molecular diagnostic systems commercialized as key products in Cepheid's portfolio. You will set the tone for a collaborative environment that values equity of voice and inclusive behaviors.

This position is part of the Prototype Engineering team in the Hardware Engineering organization located in Bengaluru, IDC, India and will be an on-site role.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Work with subject matter experts to assemble and test prototypes.
  • Implement testing strategies through fixture development, test software requirements, and automation.
  • Determine initial manufacturability of a product/subassembly and identify potential improvements to reduce scrap, reduce cycle times, and increase error proofing.
  • Participate in design and process changes to improve manufacturability and testability of mechanical, electrical, and electro-optical subassemblies and systems.
  • Perform failure analysis of subassemblies, and instruments from internal customers.

The essential requirements of the job include:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Industrial Engineering (or an equivalent technical discipline) with 7+ years of applicable experience.
  • Demonstrated analytical/experimental problem-solving skills to understand hardware, software issues and be able to quickly analyze and resolve system inter-operability problems.
  • Interpret and follow detailed schematics, wiring diagrams, and assembly instructions to build and repair electronic systems. Experience using Altium.
  • Hands on approach to assembly and testing of prototypes.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and multiple iterations of components while remaining organized. Strong verbal and written communication skills.

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

  • Experience using SolidWorks and basic GD&T knowledge.
  • Experience in a programming language such as Python, C#, or C++.
  • Knowledge in statistics and statistical test software such as Minitab or JMP.
  • Medical device industry experience or equivalent experience in a regulated industry.
