POSITION OVERVIEW

The Department of Law, Police Science, and Criminal Justice Administration (LPS) at John Jay College of Criminal Justice invites applications for two full-time lecturer positions to begin Fall 2026. The successful candidates will teach security related courses in our undergraduate Security major and minors in Homeland Security and Cyber Crime, from entry level up to capstone seminars.

Candidates must be willing to serve as one of the coordinators of the Security related major and minors and perform assessment and curricular development for the major and minors. Candidates are expected to have successful college-level teaching experience, as well as positive teaching evaluations. Candidates are expected to have prior expertise as practitioners and in teaching courses in the area of private security, particularly information/cyber security. The hiring committee is especially interested in applicants who contribute to the diversity mission of the college through their leadership, community service, research, and/or lived experiences.

The position of lecturer is tenure-bearing through what is called a “certificate of continuous employment” (CCE) after the sixth annual reappointment. This position of lecturer is a teaching position with a course load of eight classes per year in addition to major expectations of departmental and College wide service. There is no expectation of research or publication.

The Department of Law, Police Science, and Criminal Justice Administration is the Flagship Department of John Jay College of Criminal Justice. We are an interdisciplinary department whose faculty specialize in criminal justice broadly defined. This includes the fields of criminal justice, international criminal justice, policing, information security, cyber-crime, law, courts and corrections. LPS is home to the Criminal Justice Bachelor of Science (CJBS) major which enrolls more than 3,000 undergraduate students, the Police Science Major, Security Major and, on a rotating basis, the International Criminal Justice Major.

Candidates are expected to bring enthusiasm and a demonstrated commitment to teaching. The successful candidate must be eager and qualified to work with our diverse student body. As demonstrated in John Jay College’s Seven Principles for a Culturally Responsive, Inclusive, and Anti-Racist Curriculum ( https://new.jjay.cuny.edu/sites/default/files/2023-08/7_Princip_Cultur_Resp_Incl_AntiRacist_Curric_Adopt_4.8.21-brief.pdf) , the College seeks a faculty member who thrives in a multicultural, collaborative academic environment and is committed to both access and excellence in higher education.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are in the process of revising our Security Management major. Candidates should indicate which courses they would be able to develop and teach based on their information-security and security management knowledge and experiences (e.g., Information Systems for Management, Data Visualization for business intelligence and data analytics, Introduction to Cloud computing and storage, Information Systems and Management Ethics).
