Law firm in Raleigh North Carolina seeks a Legal Assistant to provide administrative, clerical, and legal services at the direction of our Workers’ Compensation Practice Group Chair. This position is a combination of administrative, legal assistant, records management, and paralegal work. Prior experience in a law office is required, and experience supporting attorneys with focus in Workers’ Compensation is required. This position is 100% virtual.
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
· Schedule meetings, appointments, interviews, workshops, conferences, and travel arrangements, as necessary;
· Compose, draft, and edit letters, pleadings, reports, spreadsheets, presentations, and other material assigned by supervising attorney;
· Assist with e-filing and organization of digital records;
· Compose summaries as needed;
· Maintain electronic and paper records, manage mailings as needed;
· Assist attorney with any mandatory reporting to State Bar, assist in processing travel, and other administrative tasks.
The ideal candidate:
· Must have experience working in a legal office;
· Must have experience supporting a Workers’ Compensation Attorney;
· Must be fluent in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Office, and Word.
The person in this position reports to the Workers’ Compensation Attorney Leads. Work hours are 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday-Friday.
Knowledge of: office management practices and procedures; communications and information processing technology; court system practices, forms, and procedures to respond to questions as they arise; and legal research tools.
Skills in: organization; multi-tasking; effectively communicating orally and in writing; legal research; MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); Teams; Adobe Acrobat; Clio experience a plus; and general office equipment (computers, printers, multi-function copy/scanning devices, telephones, etc.).
Ability to: manage your own time; maintain files, schedules, and assigned tasks; analyze and interpret information and make necessary decisions with accuracy; create and edit documents with a high degree of accuracy using proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling; organize and complete work by specific deadlines;
High school diploma and three (3) years of legal assistant or administrative experience; or an associate degree in a related field, such as business administration, paralegal studies, secretarial science, etc. and one (1) year of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Although not required, management prefers candidates with (1) paralegal training and/or certification; (2) Workers’ Compensation experience; and (3) technological sophistication.
