Legal Assistant

Duties

  • Manage legal case files using document management systems such as iManage and PCLaw, ensuring accurate filing, data entry, and document review.
  • Conduct comprehensive legal research utilizing Westlaw, LexisNexis, and other resources to support case strategies across diverse practice areas including estate planning, environmental law, family law, securities law, tribal law & regulations, patent law, workers' compensation law, personal injury law, landlord-tenant law, immigration law, and litigation.
  • Draft, proofread, and review legal documents such as contracts, pleadings, memos, and correspondence with precision and clarity.
  • Assist attorneys with legal administrative tasks including scheduling appointments, managing calendars, preparing for court filings, and coordinating meetings.
  • Support litigation processes through document review, case organization, transcription services, and maintaining detailed records of case activities.
  • Conduct interviews with clients or witnesses when necessary to gather pertinent information for cases.
  • Utilize legal research tools like Westlaw and LexisNexis to compile relevant case law and statutory information that informs case strategies.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a paralegal or legal assistant within a busy law office environment.
  • Strong knowledge of various practice areas such as estate planning, environmental law, family law, securities law, tribal regulations, patent law, workers' compensation law, personal injury law, landlord-tenant issues, immigration law, and litigation procedures.
  • Proficiency in legal research platforms including Westlaw and LexisNexis; familiarity with document management systems like iManage and Clio is highly desirable.
  • Excellent writing skills with the ability to draft clear legal documents; strong proofreading and transcription abilities are essential.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Experience with project management tools and legal case management software such as PCLaw is preferred.
  • Effective communication skills coupled with professional phone etiquette for interacting with clients and team members.
  • Ability to handle administrative tasks efficiently—such as data entry, filing, scheduling—and provide executive administrative support when needed.
  • Knowledge of UCC (Uniform Commercial Code) laws and familiarity with contracts is advantageous.
