Kennedys, a global law firm with offices throughout the U.S., is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Legal Assistant to join our New York office.
This is a hybrid position, requiring a minimum of 3 days on-site in our New York office. This job description is not exhaustive and may vary in line with changes in the team's objectives and firm policy.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive support to multiple attorneys, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations.
- Strong understanding and knowledge of litigation processes and court procedures.
- Draft and proofread correspondences and legal documents, including but not limited to Pleadings, Answers, Discovery Demands/Responses, Notices, Stipulations, Subpoenas, etc., with high accuracy and attention to detail.
- Prepare and assemble materials for Motions, including proofing, gathering exhibits, identifying and redacting sensitive information, hyperlinking (if required), and ensure compliance and protocols align with Judge's rules.
- Create Table of Contents and Table of Authorities for Memorandum of Law.
- Proofread, format and finalize client reports and other documents as needed.
- Organize and maintain electronic case files via firm's iManage system.
- Coordinate service of process for Summons and Complaints, Third-Party Complaints, Subpoenas, etc. and follow-up for affidavits of service.
- Monitor and track deadlines for Answers, Motions, and trial dates.
- Proactively assist team members with workload coverage when colleagues are out of the office or during high-volume periods through Service Desk Plus.
- Complete mandatory compliance training timely.
- Maintain professional and positive relationships with clients, attorneys and colleagues.
- Maintain trust and confidentiality at all times while understanding and living by Kennedys values – approachable, straightforward, supportive, distinctive and ambitious.
Required Experience
- 5-7 years of experience in defense litigation; insurance coverage a plus.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (advanced Word, Excel and Outlook).
- Substantial experience in filing within New York state and Federal court systems.
- Excellent proofreading skills with a meticulous eye for detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively in a fact-paced legal environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong team player with the ability to adapt and collaborate across all departments.
- Highly reliable, possesses a strong work ethic, and maintains professional demeanor.
The annualized salary range for this role is $80,000-$90,000. However, this is contingent upon level of experience, location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
