MKO Employment Law LLC
The Opportunity
MKO Employment Law LLC is seeking a highly organized, dependable, and tech savvy Paralegal or Legal Assistant to support a busy employment law practice representing employees. Although this is a fully remote role, rare in-person commitments require candidates to live in or around Allegheny County, PA.
This is a high trust, client centered position. Approximately 80% of the work involves client communication, including phone calls, written updates, fact gathering, and follow ups. The successful candidate will support a large active caseload while keeping deadlines, documents, client requests, and next steps under control.
Remote Work and Schedule Flexibility
Remote work and scheduling flexibility are major benefits of this position. The role is designed around working from home, and MKO offers substantial freedom in when weekly hours are completed. Scheduled calls, agreed coverage, deadlines, attorney needs, prompt communication, accurate timekeeping, and approximately 45 hours each week must be consistently satisfied.
What You Will Do
· Own caseload organization: Track tasks, deadlines, follow ups, client requests, and attorney priorities across a substantial active caseload.
· Communicate with clients: Handle frequent inbound and outbound communications with empathy, professionalism, patience, and appropriate urgency.
· Support attorney workflow: Anticipate next steps, prepare attorneys for client calls and deadlines, track assigned work, and prevent matters from stalling.
· Drive attorney follow through: Maintain a clear list of priorities, decisions, and outstanding items; give direct reminders; flag overdue work; and follow up respectfully until action is taken and the matter moves forward.
· Prepare client and legal documents: Draft and send Legal Services Agreements, client correspondence, interview assessments, chronologies, narratives, and other case materials. Depending on experience, assist with demand letters, filings, discovery, and federal court documents.
· Build accurate narratives: Interview clients, identify important facts, organize timelines, and create clear written accounts of each client's experience.
· Maintain records and priorities: Keep case notes, files, contact information, matter status, and next actions current while managing competing demands calmly.
· Support limited firm operations: Very occasionally collect mail or documents, deliver filings, or handle similar tasks in downtown Pittsburgh. Assist with website content or other firm projects as needed.
Who Thrives in This Role
· Exceptional organization: You use dependable systems, not memory alone, to manage high volumes of tasks, communications, and deadlines.
· High work capacity: You can support a busy attorney, remain productive, and work diligently through a substantial client workload.
· Professional assertiveness: You are comfortable giving a busy attorney direct reminders, identifying overdue work, and respectfully pressing for decisions when a matter needs action.
· Focused remote work habits: You remain engaged, responsive, and accountable in a dependable home work environment.
· Strong communication: You are polished on the phone, write clearly, listen carefully, and maintain professional boundaries.
· Comfort with technology: You learn software quickly and are comfortable with Microsoft Word, Google Sheets, video meetings, electronic files, and task management tools.
· Sound judgment and discretion: You protect confidentiality, accept direct feedback, and adjust quickly when client or case needs change.
Prior law firm or other legal experience is preferred, especially experience supporting a busy attorney or managing a substantial caseload. A candidate must also demonstrate exceptional organization, strong communication, sound judgment, professional assertiveness, and the ability to learn quickly. Comprehensive training is provided.
