Legal Billing Specialist (Part-Time)

Location: Remote or Hybrid/ South Carolina-based applicants preferred
Hours: 3–5 hours per week
Pay: $18–$23/hour (based on experience)

About Us

We are a South Carolina family law firm seeking a detail-oriented, experienced Legal Billing Specialist to oversee and manage all aspects of client billing and collections. Our practice demands a professional who can take ownership of the billing cycle, push for timely payments, and ensure accuracy in financial records.

Key Responsibilities

  • Client Billing:
  • Prepare and send out client invoices on a bi-weekly basis through Clio case management software.
  • Collections & Follow-Up:
  • Follow up (bi-weekly) with clients who have not paid their bills.
  • Use multiple communication methods including phone calls, emails, Clio messages, and mailed letters.
  • Employ lawful strategies, including referral to collections if necessary, to maximize recovery of outstanding fees.
  • Payment Processing & Documentation:
  • Record and apply payments accurately in Clio and bookkeeping systems.
  • Provide documentation to bookkeeper as needed for reconciliation of trust/IOLTA and operating accounts.
  • Financial Oversight:
  • Track outstanding balances and proactively engage clients to ensure timely resolution.
  • Recommend and implement strategies to encourage consistent payments.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of experience handling billing and collections in a family law firm setting (South Carolina experience preferred).
  • Proficiency with Clio case management software (or comparable legal billing systems).
  • Strong understanding of South Carolina laws and ethical rules regarding client billing, trust accounts, and collections.
  • Proven ability to be assertive yet professional—able to “bulldog” collections while maintaining client relationships.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Schedule & Pay

  • Approximately 3–5 hours per week.
  • Workload alternates: one week focused on sending invoices, the next on collections follow-up.
  • Compensation: $18–$23/hour, depending on experience.
