Legal Consultant - Insurance Sector

We have an urgent requirement for Legal Consultant with experience in insurance sector for one of the Insurance client in Abu Dhabi.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
  • Provide legal advice, guidance and support to all business departments on a wide range of matters to protect the company's interest by ensuring compliance with contractual obligations, applicable statutes, rules and regulations, and minimize liability.
  • Demonstrate strong commercial/business acumen, delivering creative and pragmatic solutions and advice.
  • Conduct legal research and confirm legal opinions on all cases filed for or against the company, aiming to recover the company's rights, minimize liability and reach amicable settlements.
  • Set out case and/or defense strategy and identify required documentary exhibits.
  • Draft instructions and appointment letters to external counsel and experts.
  • Manage litigation and dispute resolution matters at all stages, including enforcement procedures where applicable.
  • Review, negotiate and draft a wide range of contracts, including insurance and reinsurance policies, lenders' documents, settlement agreements and other legal documents, to prevent exposure and evaluate risk.
  • Custodian of original agreements and the company's registration documents.
  • Update standard forms of agreements and other documents to reflect changes in the legal landscape.
  • Liaise with Compliance Department on regulated services and contractual aspects, and manage signatures ensuring authorized signatories.
  • Carry out legal research on laws, judgments and principles to support decision-making.
  • Manage filing of executed contracts and legal templates.
  • Advise top management on legal implications of new projects, investments, joint ventures, alliances, mergers and acquisitions.
  • Evaluate and monitor external legal services to ensure value, liaise with external lawyers on cases.
  • Track and manage powers of attorney, ensuring proper execution and cancellation of their use; draft POA wording as required.
  • Provide legal translation services for official documentation with legal implications.
  • Manage and supervise junior employees' work.
  • Detail-focused and self-motivated approach.

  • Strong success rate for the company in litigation matters, avoiding missed deadlines and incomplete strategies.
  • Strong drafting skills.
  • Absence of disputes over legal issues concerning technical or service contracts.
  • Clear and accurate drafting of contracts and documents, with proper remedies for defaults.
  • Identification and highlighting of potential risks, discrepancies and significant obligations.
  • Correct and complete research results.
  • Proper filing and organization of documents.
  • Successful operation of business ventures based on the legal advice provided.
  • Adherence to legal processes in place.
  • Proper management of all POAs and powers, kept in one folder.
  • Accurate and timely translation of all legal documents.
Professional Qualifications & Experience
  • 12+ years of experience in a legal role.
  • Preferably at least 2 years in an international law firm or in-house legal department of a prominent regional or international company.
  • Professional Qualification from the Chartered Insurance Institute in London or equivalent is preferred.
  • Full professional proficiency in English and Arabic languages.
  • Strong commercial/business acumen and ability to deliver creative and pragmatic solutions.
