Essential Function:
- The Reference Librarian is directly responsible to the Chairperson of the Library.
- Provides professional reference and research assistance in person, online, and by telephone.
- Supports student and community member learning and faculty instruction through effective use of library programming support, collections management support, and print and online resources.
- Maintains civil, respectful, and inclusive interactions with all members of the Triton College community.
Qualifications
Education:
Master’s degree of Library and Information Science from an ALA-approved program.
Experience:
Previous experience working in a library providing reference services or research support.
Skills:
- Excellent customer service skills, demonstrated in person, over the phone, and online.
- Experience with integrated library systems, discovery platforms, and public printing technologies used in academic libraries, with the ability to learn and adapt to new systems as needed.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a contributing team member.
- Knowledge of the Library of Congress Classification (Call Number) System.
- Demonstrated commitment to civility, equity, and inclusion when interacting with students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
- Recommend, interpret, evaluate, and use information resources to assist students and patrons with specific assignments and research needs.
- Provide research guidance and instruction using the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education.
- Support collection development activities and evaluation of library materials, as assigned.
- Participate in departmental projects, initiatives, and programming activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of Library Services and institutional goals.
