JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Library Media Specialist is responsible for organizing and managing library collection and other data resources, as well as planning engaging interactive activities. This role supports students, teachers, and other members of the school community by ensuring effective practices in the school’s instructional program. The Library Media Specialist provides leadership and expertise to ensure the library program is aligned with the mission, goals, and objectives of the school and district, while serving as an integral part of the overall teaching and learning environment.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implement practices and procedures established by the Principal, District Library Media Coordinator or Designee.
  • Plan, implement, monitor and evaluate the library media program.
  • Manage and operate the Library Media Center.
  • Develop, update, and publicize the resources, services, and circulation policy of the Library Media Center and implements measures to ensure maximum and effective use of the resources and services by students and school staff.
  • Monitor the circulation of resources and compiles monthly and annual statistical and program reports.
  • Actively participates and works with others in the selection of books, equipment, and other library material including technologies to enhance instruction in varying formats and levels of difficulty utilizing library media budget.
  • Participate in professional growth and development activities including staff meetings and professional development as required or assigned
  • Collaborate with teachers and staff, other schools and local libraries
  • Fluent with the online automation system
  • Facilitate literacy events and programs, reading initiatives book fairs, complete lesson plans (as required) and units of study.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid Alabama Teacher's Certificate
  • Master's Degree with certification in Library Media K-12 from an accredited institution
  • ESSA Criteria for Highly Effective Teacher
  • Proficient in the use and implementation of various current technologies
  • Effective interpersonal skills with a wide variety of individuals and groups
