Examples of the Work Performed

Establishes and maintains good working relationships with staff and the public.

Provides excellent customer service at a main service point within the Library, including in person at the Information desk, via phone, and via e-mail.

Checks materials in and out, issues Library cards, and updates Library cards.

Sells Friends of the Library merchandise, accepts payments for lost/damaged items; may clear accounts, run reports, and empty book drops (location dependent).

Assists patrons with use of the Library online catalog (OPAC), the Library website, online subscription databases and other electronic resources, the internet, other library related applications, and general computer and mobile applications; assists patrons with use of Library equipment such as printers, computers, laptops.

Assists Library users with research; helps patrons find and access library materials; places materials on hold; assists patrons with placing interlibrary loan requests

Performs Reader’s Advisory services.

Maintains and distributes community information.

Answers directional and general reference questions; records reference question statistics. Answers patron questions, comments, and complaints regarding the Library and its services according to Library policies.

May handle or assist with difficult situations relating to patrons and facilities (including writing incident reports); may assist with emergencies.

Maintains orderliness of public areas.

Assist patrons with room bookings; monitor online room bookings.

May assist with Library programming (including off-site programming).

Promotes Library programs and services.

May support other Library staff in their duties.

Performs related duties, as assigned.

Qualifications

Associates degree or two years of college level coursework.
-
Minimum of 1 year of experience in a customer service environment (in-person).
Desired Requirements
-
Bachelor's Degree or higher in a related field.
-
Minimum of 1 year of experience working in a public Library including one year working with computers and on-line resources, including Library circulation software or research databases.

Knowledge of the local community and its resources.

Fluency in a language other than English, particularly Dine, Hopi, and/or Spanish.
