Library Associate – Part Time Position

    Severn offers paid personal leave and sick leave. Full-time employees are eligible to earn vacation time.

    Additionally, Severn closes for two, two-week periods during the year. These are Winter Break and Spring Break. (Full-time 12-month employees are required to work one of those four weeks.)

    Each full-time faculty and staff member is eligible for 50 percent tuition remission for children admitted to the School.
  • New Faculty Support

    Our 122 full- and part-time faculty members allow for the small 10-to-1 student-to-teacher ratio and the average class size of 14. New faculty are enrolled in a mentoring program that assists them in acclimating to our community as well as allowing time for reflection on issues related to being a teacher. All employees are supported by the appropriate division head, the academic dean, as well as department chairs and peer mentors.

Severn School seeks a Library Associate to support students and faculty in grades 6-12.

Reporting to the Library Director, the Library Associate will help ensure the library is a welcoming, service-oriented place. In conjunction with other library staff, this part-time employee will supervise a two-story library that is often bustling with students and faculty. This individual will also assist with maintaining the collection, library programming, and clerical tasks.

This part-time position begins in August 2026. Hours are flexible, and there is the possibility of making this a full-time position if combined with other areas of need at Severn.

Qualifications (preferred candidates will possess the following qualifications):
  • Previous experience working in a public library or school library
  • Experience working with children and young adults
  • Ability to establish effective and collaborative working relationships with students and colleagues
  • Appropriate technology skills to accomplish job responsibilities and a willingness to learn new technologies and troubleshoot issues that arise
  • Strong organizational and time management skills

Position Expectations (the individual selected to fill this position will be expected to carry out the following responsibilities, though the list is not exhaustive):
  • Supervise middle and upper school students
  • Process and circulate materials
  • Use the library management system to run reports, catalog books as needed, delete eBooks, and perform other needed tasks
  • Attend webinars or other professional development to stay abreast of upgrades to the system and share those with the library staff
  • Assist students and faculty with library technology, including access to online resources, printing, and copying
  • Maintain the collection by shelving, keeping shelves neat and orderly, and communicating with students and parents regarding late or lost materials
  • Perform clerical duties such as ordering library supplies, completing business office paperwork, maintaining a budget spreadsheet, processing mail, adding events to the library calendar, etc...
