Library Director, Maclure Library (Pittsford, VT)

The Maclure Library is seeking a dynamic, community-minded leader to serve as its next full-time Library Director. The Maclure Library goes back to 1796, when the first Pittsford Librarian Association was formed. This makes our community library one of the oldest library organizations in the state. Our Library is a treasured asset, a cultural and informational hub for residents of Pittsford.

Key Responsibilities

● Operations: Oversee collection development, library technology, creative programming and facilities maintenance

● Leadership: Supervise, hire and mentor a dedicated team of staff and volunteers. Expand and strengthen the library’s volunteer program.

● Strategy & Finance: Partner with the Board of Trustees on long-range planning, budget preparation. Seek and secure grants for programming and capital projects; support the Board's fundraising efforts.

● Direct Service: Maintain a presence on the floor, including weekly hours at the circulation desk and attendance at meetings as needed.

● Community Engagement: Act as the face of the library, fostering partnerships, and managing public outreach including newsletters and social media.

Qualifications

● Education: A degree in library science. Candidates without a degree in library science must be willing to complete the Certificate of Public Librarianship program offered by the Vermont Department of Libraries training/certification within 5 years of hire.

● Experience: Minimum 5 years of library experience, including 2+ years in a supervisory/management role.

● Technical Skills; Proficiency with automated library systems, computer networks and electronic resources.

● Soft Skills: Exceptional organizational ability, strong verbal and written communication skills. Self motivated and able to design and implement programs and events that enrich and strengthen our community. Ability to work in conjunction with the Board of Trustees.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary : $22.00 - 27.00 per hour, negotiable, and commensurate with experience.
