Contract Period: Academic-year position, 200 days (includes 4 floating days in summer), salaried, exempt

Supervisor: Dean of Faculty

Qualifications: Master’s degree in Library Science/Media from an accredited institution preferred, licensure, or eligible, as a library media specialist from NH Dept. of Education, 3 years’ experience in library science and 3 years’ experience in a supervisory position preferred

The Library Media Services Director’s most important role is establishing and facilitating the goals and vision for the library and Media Center to support the mission of the school community. By creating an educational and collaborative culture within the library and media center, students will be able to develop skills, make meaning of content and transfer their knowledge to new situations, and apply what they have learned to real-life situations. Fostering a positive, challenging, and supportive environment is essential to the academic and social-emotional development of our students.


As a director of a department and a member of the management team, it is essential that the Library Media Services Director displays a collaborative attitude. The growth and progress of the Pinkerton community depends on the involvement and engagement of the faculty members in supporting department and school-wide goals. The creation of a positive atmosphere in the school community reinforces learning as a lifelong activity. The modeling of Pinkerton’s goals of courtesy, respect, and responsibility can be demonstrated through a staff member’s relationships with students, staff, and parents.

Library and Media Center
  • Establishes goals and vision for the library and Media Center appropriate to the school and the students served that meet the school’s mission.
  • Stays current in knowledge of
  • Literature and current trends in school library media practice and information technology, knowledge of the design and use of educational technology tools
  • School’s curriculum and student information needs within the curriculum to promote competency in information literacy across the curriculum
  • Resources available within and beyond the school, such as collaborative relationships with external information sources, like other school media specialists, public libraries, government agencies, and business organizations to support learning.
  • Develops a plan to evaluate the library program to stay current and up to date with emerging library media and educational technologies
  • Maintains and expands the library collection, equipment, and technologies to meet the diverse needs of the school, the learning needs of all learners, and library information standards.
  • Supervises students and manages student behavior in accordance with school policies and standards.
  • Implements policies and procedures relating to borrowing and returning of library property.
  • Supervises the inventory of library materials and equipment as needed.
  • Maintains the library’s online resources.

  • Provides professional learning opportunities to acquaint teachers with print, online and multimedia resources as well as research and information literacy.
