Library Technician

JOB
Under general supervision, the Library Technician assists patrons in using library resources and performs paraprofessional and advanced clerical work. This position supports the library’s mission to meet the community’s informational, educational, and recreational needs by helping patrons locate materials and overseeing circulation of valuable or rare resources. The role requires accuracy, initiative, and resourcefulness, and may include operating the library in the absence of the Library Director. Duties must be performed in a manner that reflects positively on the City and Department.The Library Technician handles a wide range of public-facing and technical tasks with an emphasis on excellent customer service. Responsibilities include cash handling, data entry, recordkeeping, tracking statistics, and assisting patrons with library equipment, computers, resources, and information requests. Work generally follows standardized procedures, with occasional moderately complex tasks. Duties may change to meet evolving needs; this description is not intended to list all responsibilities. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Provide circulation desk services, including check-in/out, assessing returned items for damage, registering patrons, maintaining records, collecting fines, and resolving account issues.Assist patrons in locating materials and using the catalog, databases, and other resources.Provide Reader’s Advisory and Reference services.Respond to in person, phone, and email inquiries, referring complex questions to appropriate staff. Support patrons with personal devices and library technology, including troubleshooting hardware and software issues, and guiding them through online forms, applications, and digital services.Maintain a welcoming, safe, and respectful environment, following established procedures for handling disruptions and potential hazards.Uphold library policies, including the Computer and Internet Usage and Patron Code of Conduct policies, in daily work and clearly explain them to patrons as needed. Mend books and multimedia using Azuradisc, CoverBind, and other tools. Shelve materials, read shelves for accuracy, and locate missing or problem items.Assist patrons with public computers, printers, copiers, scanners, and other library equipment.Open and close the library, securing cash and valuables, turning equipment on or off, and ensuring building security.May oversee library operations for up to four hours.Assist with special projects as assigned, which may include tasks like writing book reviews, creating displays, preparing craft kits, designing promotional materials in Canva, and updating the library’s website.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Hiring for one part-time position with the following fixed weekly schedule: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 2:00-6:15, and Fridays and Saturdays from 12:00-4:15.
