Job Description


This position is eligible for an additional sign-on bonus.

Provide nursing services within the scope of a Licensed Practical Nurse license to support patient intake
screening, routine and urgent care, medication continuity, health record documentation, emergency response,
infectious disease prevention, and continuity of care in a secure government-contracted facility. The role
supports delivery of culturally competent and trauma-informed health services in accordance with state
licensure requirements, credentialing standards, contract requirements, and facility policies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide nursing services within licensed scope of practice, credentialed role, and assigned duties, in
  • accordance with state law, facility procedures, and contract requirements.
  • Support initial medical screening within 12 hours of patient arrival, including required intake processes, tuberculosis screening activities, vital signs, health history collection support, and escalation of positive or urgent findings in accordance with facility protocol.
  • Support daily sick call and triage processes for patient health care requests and ensure required
  • documentation is completed in the health record.
  • Administer prescribed medications and support medication continuity for transfer, release, or removal, within licensure, assigned authority, and facility procedures.
  • Perform or support minor procedures, routine screenings, and Clinical Laboratory Improvement
  • Amendments-waived or point-of-care testing within authorized scope, including blood glucose monitoring, urinalysis, pregnancy testing, immunization support, and routine electrocardiogram support, as assigned.
  • Support routine laboratory processes required at the facility and promptly escalate abnormal, urgent, or serious findings in accordance with established procedures.
  • Support emergency medical response, including Basic Life Support, cardiopulmonary resuscitation,
  • automated external defibrillator use, emergency first aid, initial stabilization, and safe transfer to a
  • higher level of care when required.
  • Prepare, maintain, and update accurate and timely patient documentation in the electronic health record, including intake, sick call, screening, medications, appointments, transfer information, and continuity-of-care records.
  • Protect the confidentiality of patient information and comply with privacy, records management, and security requirements, including prompt reporting of unauthorized access or security incidents.
  • Follow infectious disease prevention, standard precautions, isolation, co-horting, quarantine, and
  • tuberculosis management requirements, including required notifications and continuity-of-care coordination.
  • Communicate effectively with patients who have limited English proficiency and with patients who have communication or mobility impairments through approved in-person, telephonic, video, sign-language, or other auxiliary support services.
  • Coordinate with the Health Authority, licensed providers, behavioral health staff, dental staff, pharmacy support, transportation staff, and facility operations personnel to support continuity of care, off-site referrals, hospitalization support, and patient movement.
  • Complete required organizational compliance education, including assigned requirements that are client-specified, for Joint Commission Healthcare Staffing Services certification or other regulatory bodies.

Qualifications


Basic Requirements/Certifications:

  • Must have and maintain an unrestricted and current license as an LVN/LPN issued by the State of Maryland or have the ability to obtain one.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Certified Correctional Health Professional or Certified Corrections Nurse credential is preferred.

Education Required:

  • Graduate from a Vocational or Practical Nurse program approved by a State, the District of Columbia, or a U.S. territory.

Attributes and Professional Qualities:

  • Demonstrates competency, training, behavior, integrity, and professional conduct consistent with contract
  • requirements.
  • Provides accurate, timely, and effective communication with patients and staff in a diverse, multilingual
  • environment using approved language assistance resources when needed.
  • Demonstrates clear documentation practices and accurate maintenance of electronic and written records.
  • Supports culturally competent and trauma-informed care.
  • Responds appropriately to urgent and emergency patient care situations.

Physical Requirements:

  • Required to walk unaided at a normal pace for up to 5 minutes and maintain balance.
  • Required to jog/fast walk up to ¼ mile.
  • Requires physical exertion such as lifting objects greater than 30 pounds.
  • Required to perform CPR/emergency care standing or kneeling.
  • Must have the ability to assist sick, injured, or aging patients or staff exiting the building (may require lifting, dragging, wheeling, or carrying someone who weighs significantly more than self).
  • Must be able to see, hear and smell with aids if necessary.
  • Must be able to lift, push, or carry 30 pounds.
  • Must perform the duties of my job in a stressful and often austere environment without physical limitations.
  • Sitting and/or standing for extended periods of time.
  • Average manual dexterity for computer operation.
  • Phone or computer use for extended periods of time.

Other Special Qualifications:

  • Must maintain current/physical residency in the continental U.S.
  • Pass a medical examination conducted by a licensed physician within 30 days prior to initial assignment.
  • U.S. citizen and have resided in the U.S. for the last five years (unless abroad on official U.S. government duty).
  • Successfully engage in and complete a thorough Background Investigation.
  • Poses or have ability to obtain required security clearances.
  • Proficiency in Spanish is preferred.

Compensation Disclaimer:
Pay range is based on several factors and may vary in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits. Final salary and offer will be determined by the applicant’s background, experience, skills, internal equity, and alignment with geographical market data.
