- Supervise and enforce rules: Monitor swimming areas to ensure patrons follow all safety rules and regulations.
- Emergency response: Be prepared to rescue swimmers in distress, provide first aid, and perform CPR or other life-saving techniques.
- Accident prevention: Stay alert for potential hazards and intervene to prevent accidents before they happen.
- Facility and equipment maintenance: Inspect pool and beach areas, equipment, and water quality (like chemical levels) to ensure they are safe and clean.
- Record keeping: Document incidents, first aid administered, and other relevant information.
Essential skills and qualifications
- Strong swimming ability: Must be a strong swimmer and proficient in water rescue techniques.
- First aid and CPR certification: Must have current certification in first aid and CPR.
- Vigilance and observation: Must be able to scan the area for long periods to detect patrons in distress.
- Decision-making and judgment: Must be able to assess situations and make sound decisions, especially during emergencies.
- Communication skills: Must be able to communicate rules clearly and courteously to the public.
- Physical fitness: Must be physically capable of performing rescues, which may involve lifting.
- Professional demeanor: Must remain calm, confident, and responsible under pressure.
