Lifting appointed person

Job Purpose:

To ensure all lifting operations are properly planned, risk-assessed, supervised, and executed in accordance with legal and safety requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lifting Operation Planning:
  • Prepare detailed lifting plans and method statements.
  • Assess the risks involved and implement necessary control measures.
  • Select appropriate lifting equipment and lifting accessories.
  • Coordination & Supervision:
  • Coordinate with crane operators, riggers, and signalers to ensure safe lifting practices.
  • Supervise critical lifting activities to ensure adherence to plan and standards.
  • Liaise with clients, engineers, and HSE teams for lifting operations.
  • Compliance & Safety:
  • Ensure lifting activities comply with national regulations (e.g., LOLER, PUWER) and company safety procedures.
  • Conduct toolbox talks and briefings before lifts.
  • Inspect lifting equipment certifications and ensure validity.
  • Documentation & Reporting:
  • Maintain lifting plans, risk assessments, lift permits, and lifting equipment records.
  • Investigate and report near misses or incidents related to lifting activities.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

  • Certified as a Lifting Appointed Person (e.g., LEEA or CPCS accredited).
  • Strong knowledge of lifting equipment, cranes, and rigging accessories.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in lifting operations.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and lifting plans.
  • Good communication and leadership skills.
  • Familiarity with industry standards such as BS 7121 and relevant HSE guidelines.
