We are looking for a Lifting Officer who is responsible for planning, supervising, and ensuring the safe execution of all lifting operations on site. This role ensures compliance with lifting regulations, evaluates lifting plans, inspects lifting equipment, and coordinates with crane operators, riggers, and site supervisors to prevent incidents and maintain a safe working environment.
Responsibilities:
- Review, prepare, and approve lifting plans, risk assessments, and method statements.
- Supervise all lifting operations involving cranes, forklifts, hoists, rigging gear, and other lifting equipment.
- Ensure all lifting tasks are carried out safely and in accordance with company policies and industry regulations.
- Inspect lifting gear and equipment (slings, shackles, hooks, cranes, spreader bars, etc.) to verify certifications and condition.
- Coordinate with crane operators, riggers, signalmen, and site supervisors to ensure safe lifting operations.
- Monitor load weights, lifting angles, and equipment capacity to prevent overloading.
- Conduct toolbox talks and safety briefings before all major lifts.
- Stop unsafe lifting operations and recommend corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate records of lifting equipment inspections, permits, and certifications.
- Investigate lifting-related incidents or near-misses and prepare detailed reports.
- Support continuous improvement of lifting standards and procedures.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Certification as a Lifting Supervisor / Lifting Officer (e.g., LEEA, LOLER, OPITO, CSCS, or industry equivalent).
- Proven experience supervising lifting operations in construction, oil & gas, marine, or industrial sectors.
- Strong knowledge of lifting equipment, rigging practices, and safety regulations.
- Ability to read and understand lifting plans, load charts, and crane specifications.
- Excellent communication and coordination skills with operators and site teams.
- Strong situational awareness and attention to detail.
- Ability to work under pressure during critical lifting activities.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to climb, walk, and inspect equipment at height or difficult areas.
- Ability to work in outdoor, industrial, or construction environments.
- Fit to respond during lifting emergencies or critical operations.
Work Environment:
- Construction sites, oil & gas facilities, shipyards, warehouses, or industrial plants.
- May require long hours, shift work, or work in high-risk environments depending on project needs.
