We are currently seeking a full-time Litigation Legal Assistant to join the team in our Chesterfield or Richmond, VA office. Successful candidates will have 3-5 years’ experience working with civil cases in Virginia's General District and Circuit Courts. Personal Injury experience is strongly desired.

As a Litigation Legal Assistant, you will be responsible for personal injury cases that do not reach a desired settlement and are subsequently filed with the court and moved into the civil litigation process.

Responsibilities:

Some key responsibilities include:

  • Gather and analyze information relevant to claims
  • Arrange service
  • Draft or prepare legal documents and file them with the appropriate court
  • Maintain electronic and paper client files
  • Calendar hearings and deadlines

Competitive applicants for this role will have:

  • Proven working experience of 3 – 5 years as a litigation paralegal/litigation legal assistant.
  • Applicable knowledge of motions, discovery, evidence, litigation documentation, court rules, procedures, practices etc. in Virginia's civil courts
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and high attention to detail
  • The ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • The willingness to be a team player as well as a strong individual contributor
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality, and to exercise discretion and good judgment

Other desirable skills and experience include:

  • Previous experience in case management software; familiarity with Filevine is a plus.
  • Paralegal associates degree, other relevant certification, or college degree preferred, but not required

This is primarily a sedentary office classification although standing in work areas and walking between work areas may be required. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard and to operate standard office equipment. Positions in this classification occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push and pull drawers open and closed to retrieve and file information. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 10 pounds.
