Logistics & Warehousing Buyer
Role:
The Logistics & Warehousing Buyer will report to the Director of Warehousing, Logistics & Supplier Quality and is responsible for sourcing and securing logistics freight and warehousing services for essential foundry supply chain operations. The buyer will manage supplier relationships, negotiate contracts, control cost, and ensure timely and efficient delivery and storage of freight. Additionally, the buyer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to align logistics strategies with production needs.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Freight & Warehouse Sourcing
- Work with existing 4PL logistics provider to assess carrier base and optimize lanes for inbound and outbound freight.
- Visit and audit warehouse facilities to review occupancy levels, efficiency initiatives, and truck turn times.
- Initiate RFQ’s for competitive bids on logistics services, review, and make recommendations.
Supplier Relationship Management/Contract Management:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure consistent quality, competitive pricing, and reliable service.
- Work with leadership in the drafting, negotiating, and management of supplier contracts, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
Cost Management:
- Complete SAP transactions to include issuing PREQ’s, PO’s, and completing freight invoice reconciliation on a weekly basis through DocuWare.
- Complete a monthly freight pickup/reconciliation for month end accounting.
- Maintain transportation routes and rates in AS400 for pricing/quoting activities.
- Complete monthly Bureau of Labor statistics freight pricing updates.
Inventory Management:
- Order and manage all dunnage inventory levels for all plants
- Develop appropriate min/max/safety stock quantities based off order history and forecast to ensure proper dunnage inventory levels for production needs.
Quality Management:
- Collaborate with suppliers to ensure freight & warehouse KPI’s are monitored and achieved (i.e. Cost/lb, Cost/mile, OTD, hours per load, etc).
- Manage all day-to-day freight shipment requests and issue resolutions.
- Ensure all USMCA and customs documents are completed annually
- Work with Indirect MRO team on projects and initiatives as needed.
Market Research/Risk Management:
- Keep informed of market trends, price fluctuations, and emerging technologies to make informed logistics decisions.
- Identify potential risk in the supply chain and develop contingency plans to mitigate disruptions.
- Ensure that logistics practices meet environmental and regulatory standards, including responsible sourcing and ethical practices.
- Support safety objectives and regulations within the carrier network warehouse facilities.
Cross-Departmental Collaboration:
- Collaborate with cross-functional disciplines to align logistics and warehousing with the foundry’s operational needs.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree; or 7 years related experience and/or training in supply chain, logistics, or warehouse management ; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge in negotiations, analytical ability, and risk management.

Travel Requirements
- Travel to plant, warehouse, and supplier locations to resolve logistics and supply chain problems and complete audit/assessment activities.

- Ability to work independently to plan and organize daily tasks, assess risk, and do comparable analytics.
