Position Overview
The Logistics Head will oversee the entire fleet and vehicle management function, ensuring efficient, cost-effective, and compliant operations. This role involves strategic planning, execution, and optimization of all transport and logistics activities including vehicle procurement, maintenance, deployment, tracking, and utilization. The position requires a leader capable of managing teams, developing policies, and implementing systems that ensure smooth day-to-day logistics operations while maintaining safety, service quality, and cost control.
Responsibilities
1. Fleet Management
- Oversee the company’s entire fleet (cars, vans, motorbikes, etc.) and ensure optimal utilization and allocation across projects.
- Plan, monitor, and control vehicle scheduling, dispatching, and routing to achieve operational efficiency.
- Manage vehicle registration, insurance, licensing, and periodic renewals.
- Ensure compliance with local transport regulations and company policies.
2. Maintenance & Operations
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules to reduce breakdowns and downtime.
- Coordinate with workshops and vendors for repairs, maintenance, and inspections.
- Maintain accurate vehicle service history and cost tracking.
- Ensure all vehicles are equipped, safe, and meet operational standards.
3. Budgeting & Cost Control
- Prepare and manage the logistics and fleet operations budget.
- Control fuel expenses, repair costs, and overall vehicle operational costs.
- Monitor KPIs such as cost per km, vehicle uptime, utilization rate, and fuel efficiency.
4. Team Leadership
- Lead and manage a team of fleet supervisors, mechanics, drivers, and coordinators.
- Conduct regular training and performance evaluations for staff.
- Promote a safety-first culture and ensure adherence to operational protocols.
5. Vendor & Contract Management
- Source and manage relationships with suppliers, leasing companies, and service providers.
- Negotiate contracts for vehicle purchase, leasing, insurance, and maintenance services.
- Evaluate vendor performance and ensure SLA compliance.
6. Data, Systems & Reporting
- Implement fleet management systems (GPS tracking, telematics, fuel monitoring, etc.).
- Maintain and analyze data to support decision-making and performance improvement.
- Prepare regular reports on fleet performance, utilization, and operational issues for management review.
7. Compliance & Safety
- Ensure all fleet activities comply with legal, environmental, and company safety standards.
- Oversee vehicle inspections, driver compliance, and accident management procedures.
- Maintain records for audits and regulatory purposes.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field.
- Minimum 8–10 years of experience in logistics and fleet management, including at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Strong understanding of Local transport operations & law, vehicle maintenance, and route optimization.
- Experience in managing large fleets and outsourced vendors.
- Proficiency with logistics management software, GPS tracking tools, and MS Office Suite.
- Knowledge of local transport laws and regulatory requirements.
