SUMMARY
(Overview of the Position):
The
India Logistics & Trade Compliance Manager
is responsible for establishing and managing all
logistics operations and trade compliance activities for
PEI-Genesis India Pvt. Ltd. during the launch and ongoing operation of the new
Pune, India facility
.
This position will ensure full compliance with
Indian Customs, DGFT (Directorate General of Foreign Trade), SCOMET export controls
, and
global trade regulations
, while aligning India operations with PEI-Genesis’
global logistics and compliance standards.
Reporting to the
Global Manager, Logistics & Trade Compliance
in Philadelphia, this role will serve as the local compliance authority for India — overseeing import/export controls, shipping processes, broker relationships, and supply chain logistics. The incumbent will also be instrumental in “bedding down” the new facility’s trade readiness and integrating it with PEI-Genesis’ global trade systems, procedures, and values.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
(Needed/Desired for the Position):

Bachelor’s Degree in
Logistics, Supply Chain Management, International Business, or related discipline
(Master’s preferred).

8+ years
of relevant experience in logistics operations and import/export compliance in India.

In-depth working knowledge of:
-
Indian Customs Act, Foreign Trade Policy, DGFT licensing, and SCOMET export control procedures.
-
Importer Exporter Code (IEC)
registration,
Bill of Entry
, and
Shipping Bill
processes.
-
HSN/HTS classification
, product valuation
, FTA (India-ASEAN, India-Japan, etc.),
and
duty exemption schemes (EOU/SEZ/Drawback).
-
Strong understanding of
global trade compliance
(EAR, ITAR, OFAC) preferred.
-
Demonstrated success working with
Customs Brokers, Freight Forwarders, 3PL/4PL partners
, and
regulatory authorities.
-
Experience with
ERP systems
(Oracle, SAP, or AS400) and data analysis tools (Excel, Power BI).
-
Excellent communication skills, written and verbal English required; Hindi and Marathi desirable.
-
Willing and able to travel within India and internationally (up to 10%).
ESSENTIAL TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
(Other duties may be assigned.):
Facility Launch Support:
-
Partner with Global HQ to establish import/export processes, SOPs, and compliance workflows for the new Pune facility.
-
Register with Customs, DGFT, and other authorities for trade and import/export permissions.
-
Set up local broker relationships, freight contracts, and shipping frameworks.
-
Ensure the facility achieves full operational readiness for global supply chain integration.
Trade Compliance Management:
-
Ensure adherence
to Indian and U.S. export/import laws
, including
classification, valuation, documentation, and licensing.
-
Maintain and manage classification matrices (HSN/ECCN/SCOMET) for all parts and materials.
-
Conduct restricted-party screenings, license determinations, and document reviews for all shipments.
-
Support compliance with
U.S. export control laws
for shipments involving U.S.-origin goods.
-
Develop and deliver internal training programs to increase compliance awareness among local teams.
Customs & Logistics Management:
-
Liaise with
freight forwarders, customs brokers, and 3PL partners
to ensure accurate and timely clearance of shipments.
-
Maintain import/export records as per Indian Customs and global company policy.
-
Support cost optimization in logistics while maintaining compliance integrity.
-
Monitor and resolve customs queries, notices, and classification issues.

Negotiate and award contract with partner carriers
-
Approve invoices with coordination with accounting
Regulatory Affairs & Risk Management:
-
Serve as PEI-Genesis India’s focal point for Customs, DGFT, BIS, and other regulatory agencies.

Manage license applications, SCOMET declarations, and special schemes (EOU, SEZ, or duty drawback programs).

Escalate potential violations, red flags, or sanctions concerns to Global Compliance promptly.

Collaboration & Reporting:
-
Report compliance metrics and key risk indicators to Global Trade Compliance.

Collaborate on global process improvements and harmonization initiatives.
-
Participate in internal audits, BIS inquiries, and corporate investigations as required.
