JOB SUMMARY:

The Manager, Logistics is responsible for overseeing rail logistics for feed products, including negotiating rates with rail and barge providers. This role also involves managing barge systems and coordinating with barge facilities to ensure efficient and cost-effective transportation of goods. The ideal candidate will have strong negotiation skills, industry knowledge, and the ability to build strong partnerships with key stakeholders.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage rail logistics for feed products, ensuring timely and efficient transportation.
  • Negotiate rates and contracts with rail and barge providers to optimize costs.
  • Oversee barge systems and maintain relationships with barge facilities to support seamless operations.
  • Coordinate and schedule shipments, anticipating potential challenges and proactively resolving issues.
  • Monitor and manage inventory movements to align with customer demand and internal requirements.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure accurate documentation and communication regarding shipments.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve logistics processes and increase operational efficiency.
  • Maintain compliance with relevant regulations and industry standards.
  • Provide regular reports on logistics performance, costs, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Other duties as assigned.


REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Strong knowledge of US and Canadian Class I and short-line rail systems.
  • Detail-oriented and comfortable with competing priorities.
  • Strong mathematical skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
  • Exceptionally well organized.
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Rail operations experience is required
  • ERP experience would be considered an asset
