The NHMLAC is seeking a Logistics Project Manager, Capital Improvement for our Finance department. The Logistics Project Manager, Capital Improvement will serve as the central point of contact for all logistical aspects of the La Brea Tar Pits Collections & Equipment Move.


Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and manage the overall project schedule for the move; assign daily and weekly tasks to the packing team to ensure project milestones are met.
  • Manage the collections move budget.
  • Identify vendor needs, solicit and evaluate bids, and negotiate contracts for external services required for the move (e.g., specialized movers, riggers, transport companies).
  • Oversee all logistical aspects of the move, including the staging of packing areas, the supply of packing materials, and coordination of transportation. Proactively monitor and replenish all necessary supplies, ensuring no work stoppages occur.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the packing staff regarding all non-specimen related issues, including scheduling, work assignments, and logistical or technical problems. Foster a collaborative and safety conscious work environment.
  • Liaise with the Collections Managers to ensure a seamless workflow between specimen handling and project logistics. Communicate project progress, challenges, and needs to upper management and other stakeholders.


This position has the following requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Museum Studies, Logistics, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Proven experience in project management, preferably with large-scale logistical projects. Experience in a museum, library, or archive setting is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage schedules, budgets, resources, and personnel effectively.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and manage a diverse team.
  • Proactive problem solver with the ability to adapt to changing priorities and unforeseen challenges.

The range for this position is $88,301.93-$94,948.31 Per Annum and includes excellent benefits. This is a Full-Time Temporary, Exempt position.
