Loop Checking Technician is responsible for verifying the correct installation, wiring, calibration, and functionality of instrumentation and control loops in industrial settings.

Responsibilities:

  • Execute Loop Checks: Perform end-to-end loop checks on analog (e.g., 4-20mA) and digital signals between field instruments (sensors, transmitters, control valves) and the control systems (DCS, PLC, SCADA).
  • Troubleshooting and Maintenance: Identify and resolve complex issues related to signal integrity, grounding faults, wiring errors, and instrumentation malfunctions. This includes diagnosing faults in pneumatic, hydraulic, and electronic control systems.
  • Calibration: Conduct field calibration and validation of instruments using standard test equipment such as loop calibrators, multimeters, and HART communicators.
  • Documentation: Ensure all test results are accurately recorded and documented in loop folders, test reports (ITRs), and "as-built" drawings. Manage punch lists and assist in final handover documentation.
  • Technical Interpretation: Read and interpret complex technical documents, including P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams), loop diagrams, I/O lists, wiring schematics, and instrument data sheets.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere strictly to site safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and Permit-to-Work (PTW) systems, ensuring a safe working environment.
  • Collaboration: Coordinate closely with control system engineers, QA/QC teams, and operations personnel to align testing schedules and ensure seamless integration and start-up.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Education: A technical diploma or certification (e.g., ITI, Polytechnic) in Instrumentation, Electrical, or Electronics engineering is typically required.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in instrumentation commissioning, maintenance, or plant start-up within process industries.
  • Technical Proficiency: Expertise in using various test equipment (loop calibrators, signal simulators, multimeters, HART communicators) and a strong understanding of industrial communication protocols (HART, Profibus, etc.).
