Role Overview ~ Senior Risk Manager

Position Summary
The Senior Risk Manager will lead the design, implementation, and administration of the Company's insurance and risk financing strategy for a growing multi-state commercial real estate portfolio.

The role will oversee: traditional insurance programs, self-insurance initiatives, captive insurance formation activities, claims administration, lender insurance compliance, and reinsurance coordination.

The position will serve as the internal coordinator among: insurance brokers, captive managers, actuaries, reinsurers, legal counsel, auditors, lenders, and company operations teams.

The position is expected to evolve into a leadership role within the Company's future captive insurance operations.

Core Responsibilities
Insurance Program Management

  • Manage all commercial insurance programs.
  • Coordinate annual renewals.
  • Review policy terms and conditions.
  • Monitor premium trends and market conditions.
  • Evaluate coverage gaps and opportunities.

Captive Formation Support

  • Coordinate captive feasibility studies.
  • Assist with data collection and underwriting submissions.
  • Manage actuarial and reserve studies.
  • Coordinate domicile applications.
  • Support licensing and regulatory filings.
  • Assist with capitalization planning.

Claims Management

  • Oversee all property and liability claims.
  • Monitor claim development.
  • Coordinate with TPAs and adjusters.
  • Review reserve adequacy.
  • Identify claim trends.

Self-Insurance and Retention Analysis

  • Analyze historical loss data.
  • Evaluate deductible strategies.
  • Recommend retention levels.
  • Monitor self-insured reserves.

Reinsurance Coordination

  • Assist in designing reinsurance structures.
  • Coordinate annual renewals.
  • Monitor catastrophe exposures.
  • Review reinsurance recoverables.

Property Exposure Management
Maintain:

  • Statement of Values (SOV)
  • Total Insured Values (TIV)
  • COPE data
  • catastrophe modeling information

Lender Compliance

  • Monitor insurance requirements.
  • Coordinate lender certificates.
  • Manage mortgagee schedules.
  • Ensure policy compliance.

Reporting Responsibilities
Prepare quarterly reporting, including:

Insurance Dashboard

  • Total premiums
  • Claims activity
  • Loss ratios
  • Reserve development
  • Deductible utilization

Captive Dashboard

  • Captive surplus
  • Combined ratio
  • Retention levels
  • Reinsurance utilization
  • Return on capital

Minimum Qualifications
Experience

  • 7+ years in commercial insurance, risk management, or underwriting.
  • 3+ years managing property and casualty insurance programs.

Preferred Experience
Experience with: commercial real estate portfolios, retail centers, industrial assets, mixed-use projects, multi-state operations.

Highly Preferred Experience

  • Captive insurance programs.
  • Self-insurance structures.
  • Alternative risk financing.
  • Reinsurance placements.
  • Catastrophe modeling.

Education
Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in:
  • Risk Management
  • Finance
  • Accounting
  • Insurance
  • Business Administration

Preferred:

  • MBA
  • MS Risk Management
  • Insurance specialization

Professional Designations
Strongly Preferred: CPCU, ARM, CRM
Valuable: ARe, CIC, RIMS-CRMP, CPA
