Loss Prevention Officer
Role Overview
The Loss Prevention Officer supports store operations by protecting company assets, minimizing shrinkage, and ensuring a safe, secure, and welcoming environment. In a fast-paced, customer-focused coffee chain, this role balances security with excellent customer service and brand standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Cash & POS Compliance
- Monitor POS transactions, refunds, and voids for irregularities
- Ensure strict adherence to cash handling procedures
- Conduct spot checks, till audits, and cash reconciliations
- Shrinkage & Theft Prevention
- Identify and prevent internal theft (e.g., unauthorized discounts, free items)
- Deter external theft through visible presence and awareness
- Investigate incidents and support disciplinary processes
- Inventory & Waste Control
- Monitor high-value and high-usage items (coffee beans, syrups, dairy, merchandise)
- Identify patterns of waste, spoilage, or misuse
- Partner with store managers to improve stock control and ordering accuracy
- Store Surveillance & Audits
- Review CCTV footage (where available)
- Conduct routine operational audits (cash, stock, safety compliance)
- Ensure adherence to company policies and standard operating procedures
- Safety & Security
- Maintain a safe environment for customers and baristas
- Respond to incidents such as disturbances, theft, or emergencies
- Ensure emergency procedures are understood and followed
- Training & Awareness
- Train team members on loss prevention practices and policies
- Promote a culture of accountability and integrity
- Support onboarding of new staff on security procedures
- Reporting & Communication
- Prepare detailed incident reports and audit findings
- Track trends and provide recommendations to management
- Liaise with area managers and corporate teams
Requirements & Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (security certification is a plus)
- 2–5 years of experience in retail, hospitality, or loss prevention
- Experience in high-volume, customer-focused environments preferred
- Familiarity with POS systems and retail audit processes
- Strong understanding of theft and fraud prevention techniques
