Lubricant Formulation Engineer
The Lubricant Formulation Engineer is responsible for the research, development, and optimization of lubricant and grease formulations to meet specific performance requirements for various applications (e.g., engines, gears, hydraulic systems). This role ensures that products comply with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and quality specifications while focusing on performance targets like friction reduction, anti-wear properties, and thermal stability.
Research & Development (R&D): Design and formulate new lubricant products (motor oils, industrial oils, greases, functional fluids) by selecting and blending appropriate base oils and additive packages.
Formula Optimization: Modify and improve existing formulations to enhance performance, reduce cost, or comply with evolving environmental and performance standards (e.g., API, ACEA, SAE specifications).
Testing and Analysis: Plan and execute comprehensive laboratory tests on new and existing formulations, including viscosity, flash point, corrosion, and oxidation stability using specialized equipment.
Performance Evaluation: Analyze test data and field trial reports (Tribology studies) to troubleshoot performance issues and recommend necessary adjustments to the formulation composition.
Quality and Compliance: Ensure all formulations adhere to regulatory requirements, environmental standards (e.g., REACH), and company Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) protocols.
Technical Support: Collaborate with the Production, Quality Control (QC), and Procurement teams to ensure successful scale-up, consistent manufacturing quality, and effective sourcing of raw materials.
Documentation: Maintain accurate, detailed records of all formulations, test results, and development processes.
Strong understanding of Tribology (the science of friction, wear, and lubrication).
In-depth knowledge of various Base Oil Groups (Group I-V) and the function of different chemical additives (e.g., anti-wear, dispersants, viscosity modifiers).
Familiarity with industry testing protocols and specifications (e.g., ASTM, ISO, OEM requirements).
Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
Proficiency in operating lab equipment (viscometers, spectrometers, etc.) and interpreting chemical data.
Effective project management skills and the ability to drive R&D initiatives from concept to commercialization.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry
