Maintenance & Grounds Manager


Position Summary

The Maintenance & Grounds Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of Westwood Country Club’s maintenance and grounds operations. This role ensures all facilities—including the Clubhouse, Tennis Center, Restaurants, Banquet Facilities, Pools, marina, landscaping/grounds, parking, and offices—are safe, functional, and maintained to the highest standards.

The Maintenance & Grounds Manager provides supervision to staff, coordinates schedules, oversees preventive maintenance programs, manages staffing, and ensures timely completion of repairs, projects, and facility upkeep as directed by the Facilities Director or Assistant Facilities Director. This role requires hands-on technical skills, strong organizational and leadership capabilities, and a proactive approach to operational excellence.

Operational & Departmental Leadership

  • Supervise and coordinate Maintenance & Grounds staff, including hiring, training, scheduling, performance monitoring, and accountability.
  • Manage daily work assignments, ensuring completion of maintenance, repair, and grounds tasks in a timely manner.
  • Ensure building systems, structures, equipment, and grounds are maintained according to regulatory standards and best practices.
  • Monitor the work of external contractors, ensuring quality, adherence to schedules, and proper documentation.
  • Maintain inventory of tools, parts, and other operational materials.
  • Assist with preparation of club events, including setup, equipment installation, and decorating as required.
  • Maintain records of maintenance, preventive maintenance programs, and inspections.
  • Collaborate with the Facilities Director and Assistant Facilities Director to identify operational improvements and implement best practices.
  • Promote a safe work environment, coaching staff on proper safety practices and immediately addressing unsafe conditions.

Financial & Administrative Oversight

  • Monitor departmental labor costs, timecards, and productivity.
  • Support budget tracking and cost control measures as directed by the Facilities Director.
  • Order parts, supplies, and equipment to ensure continuous operations.
  • Participate in special projects and capital improvement initiatives as assigned.

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Strong technical knowledge in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, masonry, HVAC, painting, and general building systems.
  • Experience supervising multiple staff members and coordinating operational tasks.
  • Skilled in preventive maintenance programs and operational planning.
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and ADP.
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays, and on-call as needed.

Preferred Education & Experience

  • Prior experience in club, hospitality, or multi-facility operations.
  • 3+ years of maintenance supervisory experience.
  • HVAC certification or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Appearance and Grooming

All employees must follow the associate handbook guidelines for workplace appearance and adhere to departmental uniform requirements. Must wear proper uniform and follow etiquette standards.

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret written and verbal instructions, operating manuals, and safety procedures. Must communicate effectively with staff, contractors, and other departments.

Reasoning Abilities

The Maintenance & Grounds Manager must manage change effectively, be flexible, establish and maintain positive working relationships, and exercise good judgment. Must be able to inspect facilities, analyze repair needs, and follow detailed procedures independently or as part of a team.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to work in heat, cold, and outdoor conditions for extended periods.
  • Standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, stooping, pushing/pulling, lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Climbing stairs, ladders, or elevated surfaces.
  • Operating assigned equipment, including company vehicles, golf carts, and power tools.
  • Skilled in safe operation procedures for maintenance equipment, HVAC systems, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, masonry, and concrete work.

Work Environment

Tasks are performed with exposure to diverse environmental conditions, including noise and safety hazards. Work may require outdoor labor in extreme temperatures and handling of cleaning materials.

  • Proficient in general building systems, including HVAC, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing.
  • Knowledgeable in safe operation procedures and preventive maintenance of all equipment.
