Maintenance Mechanic

Class 1 / 2 Plant Mechanic

12 Hour PM SHIFT (Th, Fr, Sa, every other Su) 6PM-6:30 AM

Job Summary /Purpose

· The Plant Mechanic is responsible for performance of mechanical troubleshooting, repairs, installations, inspections and preventive and predictive maintenance activity. The Mechanic adheres to all Environmental, Health and Safety regulations, policies and procedures

· The Plant Mechanic is responsible for the safe work execution of assigned tasks, and for safety of the surrounding areas, for both her/himself, co-workers, and visitors.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform repairs with minimum supervision.
  • Demonstrate safe and proper application of hand, pneumatic and electric tools.
  • Assist other qualified technicians in repair tasks such as removal, installation and repair of components/machines.
  • Perform departmental or equipment cleaning as required.
  • Demonstrate safe and proper application of hand, pneumatic and electric tools.
  • Demonstrate proper pre-start inspection procedures. basic operation, and shutdown of equipment
  • Demonstrate the ability to change fluids, filters and screens, and to properly dispose of waste materials.
  • Demonstrate proper torque procedures using a torque wrench, torque wrench extension, and torque multiplier.
  • Demonstrate proper usage of Service Manuals and associated maintenance literature – Lubrication specifications, Service Magazines, etc.
  • Demonstrate proper use of jumper cables and battery charger.
  • Demonstrate safe rigging, use and storage of lifting tackle and overhead cranes.
  • Demonstrate safe machine lifting and blocking techniques.
  • Demonstrate proper use of seal removal tools and easy- out tooling
  • Demonstrate proper use of thread taps and dies and threaded inserts.
  • Show proficiency in the identification and use of seals, lubricants, hose, chemicals, hardware and filters.
  • Identify proper tools required for an assigned service operation.
  • Troubleshoot and repair opens, shorts, and shorts to ground in all electrical systems.
  • Check for proper electrical relay operation.
  • Run all manlifts, forklifts and any other mobile equipment to full capacity.
  • Check, evaluate equipment for wear, and adjust if needed or available.
  • Measure/analyze coolant, oil, air filters on mobile equipment as required.
  • Inspect and repair air compressors and air system as needed
  • Perform and evaluate Pneumatic cylinder testing.
  • Patch worn equipment as it wears

Education and/or Experience:

  • One-year certificate or A. S. degree from a community college or technical school; or equivalent education (including High School diploma or general education degree (GED)) and 4 years’ experience in industrial plant maintenance.
  • Basic computer Skills

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

· While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts; in high precarious places; and in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $24.00 - $28.00 per hour
