Pay Range: USD $38,280.00 - USD $53,590.00 /Hr. Overview:
Directly supporting the Charles Milles Poultry Research & Educational Center, this Maintenance Mechanic position is responsible for the maintenance and repair of buildings, grounds, and facilities, to include the hatchery, feed mill, live-bird research buildings, and processing plant. The individual selected for the position must be comfortable working around live chickens as well as following strict biosecurity guidelines such as wearing the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
Responsibilities:
- Perform inspections, preventative maintenance and repair on any equipment or operating systems supporting the Charles C. Miller, Jr. Poultry Research and Education Center.

Communicate with supervisors, faculty, staff and sometimes students to ensure all facilities are operational and able to complete the desired research projects.

Assist with ensuring farm vehicles are operational, safe and easily accessible for Poultry Science department personnel; ensure all vehicles are up to date on annual safety inspections.

Perform monthly checks on Miller Center safety/emergency features including back-up generators, storm shelters, eye wash stations, fire extinguishers, and defibrillators.

Communicate effectively with vendors/contractors that may be required to work on Miller Center facilities, equipment or vehicles to maximize operational efficiency.

Respond to after hours emergencies in a timely manner as needed during live research projects.
Qualifications:
- High School High School Diploma or equivalent. and 0 years of General building maintenance, basic electrical repair, basic plumbing repair, basic carpentry, and/or general trades.

DL NUMBER - Driver License, Valid and in State Any State Upon Hire Required

Additional certifications may be required for level II and level III, based on department need. Upon Hire Required
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge and understanding of basic building maintenance and repair; including electrical, plumbing,mechanical, and carpentry.

Basic knowledge of current building codes and practices, and OSHA standards.

Ability to read, write, and preform basic math skills.

The ability to correctly and safely use common hand and power tools.
