Maintenance Worker

The District is seeking an ideal candidate who is a motivated individual with sound judgment who can work and drive in all weather conditions, work independently and as part of a team, troubleshoot and problem solve, show initiative, display excellent communication skills, and works safely while maintaining a high level of organization, accountability and attention to detail.

Position Summary

This is a full-time, non-exempt, on-site position that reports to the District Foreman and performs a variety of semi-skilled labor duties in the installation, maintenance, and repair of the District’s irrigation water delivery and drainage systems involving use and/or operation of light vehicles, dump trucks, heavy equipment, machinery, hand and power tools, and handheld devices. This position works as part of a team or individually, receives daily work direction, and investigates and addresses other issues or matters as assigned.

Position Requirements

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
• Valid Colorado Driver’s License with class A CDL learners permit and an approved driving record from the DMV.
• Ability to complete required driver training and obtain a Class A Commercial Driver License with air brakes endorsement within one (1) year from the date of hire with the District.
• Ability to complete Flagger, Trenching and Excavation, Confined Space, and CPR/First-Aid training.
• A 40-hour work week, working overtime as required but not guaranteed, with or without notice, and responding to emergencies as required.
• Work a regular and rotational seven (7) day on-call schedule and on-call shifts as required.
• Flexibility to work early in the mornings, days, nights, holidays, weekends, and fill in for absent employees as needed.
• Must live within 30 minutes travel time to Orchard Mesa Irrigation District’s main office.
• Subject to random DOT drug screenings.

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Valid Class A CDL with air brakes endorsement.
• Heavy equipment experience.
• Trade skills.
• Previous experience in construction, small and heavy equipment operation, welding, concrete work, water systems, or other irrigation systems.
• Any equivalent combination of experience, training, certifications and education that provides the required skills and abilities for the position.

Pay and Benefits

This is a non-exempt position and the pay range for this position is $19.00 to $25.00 per hour with a competitive benefits package.
