Manager - General Underwriting

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Manager – General Underwriter to oversee risk evaluation, pricing, and placement of general insurance policies. The role requires strong technical underwriting expertise, analytical capabilities, and effective negotiation skills to manage relationships between clients and insurers while ensuring compliance with underwriting and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess, analyze, and underwrite general insurance risks in line with company and insurer guidelines
  • Interpret and apply policy wordings, coverage terms, and rating methodologies accurately
  • Review claims history and risk data to determine appropriate pricing and coverage
  • Negotiate terms, conditions, and premiums with insurers to secure optimal outcomes
  • Manage client and insurer relationships to ensure smooth policy placement and renewals
  • Utilize insurance portals, underwriting systems, and MS Excel for underwriting analysis and reporting
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and internal underwriting standards
  • Support and guide junior underwriting or broking staff when required

Key Requirements

  • 2–7+ years of experience in general insurance underwriting or insurance broking
  • Strong technical knowledge of policy wordings, rating guidelines, and risk assessment techniques
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in insurance portals, underwriting software, and MS Excel
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills
