Description

JOB PURPOSE / OBJECTIVE

  • Maritime Industries Management System (IMIMS).
  • The role involves working closely with the GM Production, Production Manager, Project Managers, and the

Key Accountabilities

  • Ensure that all mechanical activities are meticulously planned, and that the plans and responsibilities are clearly communicated and understood by all relevant mechanical personnel.
  • Develop comprehensive project/production plans, including detailed schedules, budgets, and resource allocation.
  • Provide sound and good knowledge on various types of Mechanical/Marine and Drilling equipment on vessels, and rigs.
  • Ensure all repair and maintenance work meet the required quality standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead and manage mechanical and ruder & propeller repair teams, including tradespeople, technicians, and subcontractors.
  • Ensure, in conjunction with the Procurement Supply Chain Group, that all materials and equipment are procured and delivered in accordance with the production and project's contract requirements.
  • Ensure effective and consistent interaction with other disciplines, management and supervision as required.
  • Monitor actual man-hours against budgeted man-hours and take appropriate steps to correct overruns and develop and manage project budgets, including labor, materials, and equipment costs.
  • Control the overtime to contribute to the best projects and gross margins.
  • Ensure that all production/project materials are used as defined in procedures and manufacturer's recommendations.
  • Ensure that all installation, maintenance and commissioning activities for the mechanical and other related systems are carried out in accordance with the approved procedures.
  • Liaise with the engineering department regarding the project's mechanical activities. Liaise with other trades to ensure project schedule adherence.
  • Conduct daily/weekly progress reporting and is responsible for ensuring that supervision gather accurate physical progress.
  • Accountable for delivery of all Inspection Test Records (ITR's) under the relevant discipline by effectively delegating them to the team. This must be approached with a high focus on interfacing and coordination with all other discipline supervision to remove all blocks from achieving target dates.
  • Provide feedback for bid preparations, whether for feasibility and tendering and/or change of scope.
  • Provide information to Planning Department to prepare a weekly workload forecast based on materials, equipment and manpower availability.
  • Visit project work regularly whether in workshops, onboard, in docks, or other open areas where related activities are taking place to check progress and give technical advice and guidance. Ensure all control measures are in place for safety, environmental aspects and housekeeping.
  • Prepare department budgets and make proposals towards management regarding processes optimization and CAPEX, OPEX, and the manpower planning for the continual improvement of productivity and efficiency.
  • Ensure that the competence level in the Mechanical and Rudder & Propeller Department meets the IMI's requirements.
  • Facilitate training and development of personnel.
  • Facilitate acquisition of relevant certification/authorization for specialized works (OEM or others) as per IMI' s strategy.
  • Manage and direct relevant subcontractors to ensure that all contract obligations are met.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, cost optimization, and efficiency enhancement in mechanical and rudder & propeller production operations. Implement best practices, new technologies, and innovative solutions to drive continuous improvement and increase productivity not only by utilizing the advanced machine-shop but also by optimizing the performance on board the vessels.
  • Develop productivity norms related to mechanical works and measure the actual performance vs norms for the sake of continuous productivity improvement by setting the new improved targets every time.
  • Perform other related duties as per management direction.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
  • Marine related professional qualifications or relevant time served.
  • Real and in-depth knowledge of mechanical, machining, rudder and propeller works and other mechanical related activities in a shipyard environment.
  • Main and Auxiliary engines overhaling, tail-shaft and other jobs propulsion system related, deck machinery, thrusters, pumps, valves overhauling, coolers, heat exchangers, hydraulic systems, boiler jobs, mechanical components of the rigs.
  • At least 15 - 18 years' experience in the Ship repair companies, yard environment with real depth in mechanical works.
