Summary:
The HR Manager is responsible for developing a thorough understanding of the line of business they support or community they support. They also need to be developing very strong relationships with the leadership team and the employees working in the operation. The Manager handles the day-to-day issues that surface with a heavy emphasis on onboarding, retention efforts, investigating employee relation issues, maintenance of employee files and documentation, as well as special request that may surface such as state audits, attending unemployment hearings, or special projects.

Responsibilities:
1. Serves as an employee advocate and a consultant to the community/program leadership team. With the support of the HR Director (assigned to their Community/Program), provides managers support and guidance on employee relations issues and employee disciplinary matters, ensuring that practices are appropriate and non-discriminatory or non-retaliatory

2. Works closely with their location’s Executive Director (ED) on employee relations issues including investigations; Must be able to “push back” and provide counsel and suggestions that may not always be well-received

3. With the support of the Executive Director, Talent Acquisition, and HR Director, develops staffing strategies and implements programs and plans to recruit and retain top quality employees; Consults with hiring managers to determine appropriate hiring rates of pay

4. Maintains a thorough understanding of various policies, procedures, and practices, and refers to online resources (or other HR Leaders) as needed for clarification and guidance

5. Serves as their location’s subject matter expert related to all matters related to employee benefits; Acts as liaison with Ministry Support staff for employee benefits; Coordinates employee benefit enrollments and changes, providing benefits education, answering benefit questions as needed

6. Serves as their location’s subject matter expert on all matters related to compensation; Administers compensation program and acts as liaison with Ministry Support staff on compensation issues; Oversees administration of performance appraisals at their location(s)

7. Reviews background checks for all candidates who have accepted employment to ensure compliance; If a candidate’s background check warrants further review or consideration, the HR Manager (in conjunction with their ED and HR Director) will determine if the pre-adverse/adverse action process should be initiated

8. Conducts New Employee Orientation (NEO) and creates a welcoming, rewarding experience for new employees; Utilizes appropriate tools to ensure hiring managers are completing onboarding steps for the new hires

9. Coordinates employee feedback surveys and employee recognition programs; Assists managers in developing programs to enhance the morale, productivity, and other work life issues; Ensures managers provide follow up from the employee feedback to keep employees engaged

10. Conducts “Stay Interviews” to ensure new hires are receiving proper introductions, a welcoming environment, and orientation ; Conducts exit interviews and provides feedback to management with suggestions for appropriate improvements

11. Creates and maintains employee HR Files, overseeing the accuracy of their employee records; Works closely with managers to ensure accurate and compliant record keeping; Serves as the primary point of contact for employee file requests during state survey visits/inspections

12. Manages unemployment benefits claims by investigating circumstances, preparing documentation, and responding accordingly; Attends unemployment hearings as needed

13. Acts as liaison to Ministry Support staff on worker’s compensation issues at their location(s); Ensures all required documents are completed in a timely manner

14. Prepares and works within HR budget for their location(s)

15. Provides input related to the development and coordination of training for their location based upon needs

16. May be involved with special projects that are designed to improve efficiencies and workflow

17. May serve as their location’s wellness champion or as a member of a wellness team; May serve as a member and/or lead of the location’s safety committee/team

18. May be assigned to coordinate special employee activities such as the annual company picnic or holiday party; Partners with Engagement Committee/Lifestyle Enrichment Directors to obtain assistance from our residents or volunteers for creation of decorations, gift bags, or special awards

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

High School diploma or GED; Bachelor’s degree preferred with an emphasis in Human Resources or related field

Must have 3 or more years of HR experience with benefits, compensation, staffing, and solid employee relations

Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, and HR-related software/databases

Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills and ability to conduct stand-up training.

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to foster productive relationships key to strategic success

High degree of professionalism and objectivity

Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment; Strong project management, time management, and leadership skills

Solid problem-solving and business acumen skills

Able to work independently on a broad variety of projects

Willingness to work additional hours to meet deadlines

Lifting up to 30 pounds. Pushing/pulling 100 lbs. on wheels. A well-lighted and ventilated working area that has its own temperature control system (air conditioning and heat). The work will have some short notice requests, timelines for completion of tasks or reports and some major projects extending over months. May experience some overnight travel to and from home office. Minimal exposure to infectious diseases and blood borne pathogens. Minimal exposure to chemicals and hazardous waste. Minimal exposure to outside weather conditions.
