What You'll Do

  • Supports services for portable and fixed contamination, instrument calibration program, internal and external dosimetry programs, source control, and applied health physics/technical support program.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates research, training, and monitoring programs to protect plant and laboratory personnel from radiation hazards.
  • Performs personnel and plant radiation exposure measurements, radiation equipment testing, and radioactive materials and waste measurements.
  • Applies health physics concepts to develop new methods and procedures.
  • Makes recommendations for changes in the work environment and work execution based on interpretations and principles of professional practices.
  • Monitors and controls the company's radiation protection standards in accordance with federal, state, and industry programs to ensure doses to personnel are as low as reasonably achievable.
  • Controls personnel radiation exposures, environmental releases, and surface-type contaminants.
  • Stays abreast of federal, state, local, and industry radiation protection regulations and recommends and develops policies that ensure compliance with standards.
  • Maintains records and supporting data for required government, industry, and management reports.
  • Provides technical assistance and guidance on comprehensive radiological control problems.
  • Manages a large function or unit.
  • Provides direction based on organizational goals and policies.
  • Establishes policies for function, and interprets and executes organizational policies.
  • Manages budget, schedule, and performance standards.
  • May partner with division directors in development of organization strategy.

Minimum Job Requirements


  • Bachelor's degree and minimum 7 years of relevant experience
  • Detailed knowledge and experience with DOE regulations and Dosimetry required
  • In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2 (i.e., Baccalaureate in engineering or related scientific major and 4 years nuclear experience; or a DOE O 426.2A alternative). DOE 426.2 experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim, newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities. (Ref. DOE O 426.2).

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.

This position may require entry into the Material Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (10 C.F.R. Part 712), which requires successful competition of a DOE counterintelligence evaluation and may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination.
