Manual Machinst

To operate Manual lathe, milling, drilling, shaper, Horizontal and Vertical Boring and machines.

Job Responsibilities

• Set up and operate manual lathe, milling, drilling, shaper, and horizontal/vertical boring machines in accordance with skill level, knowledge, and manufacturers’ operating instructions.
• Review the Work Order and ensure all required materials, tools, and instructions are available before starting the job.
• Visually inspect cutting tools and raw materials prior to machining; replace worn tools from stores and report any material defects to the Workshop Supervisor.
• Operate all machines safely and competently, following OEM guidelines and ensuring compliance with QHSE policies, safety standards, and housekeeping requirements.
• Coordinate with the QC Inspector upon completion of machining tasks to ensure dimensional accuracy and quality compliance.
• Conduct an effective shift handover, communicating work progress, machine conditions, and any safety related information.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, sketches, manuals, specifications, and sample parts to determine machining requirements, tolerances, and sequence of operations.
• Monitor machine operation closely to detect malfunctions or out of tolerance machining, and make necessary adjustments to controls.
• Select, align, and secure appropriate fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.
• Perform other related workshop or maintenance duties as assigned by the supervisor.
  
  

Required Skills / Knowledge

• Ability to read and interpret component drawings, engineering sketches, and technical specifications.
• Proficient in machining components as per drawings, ensuring accuracy and compliance with required tolerances.
• Strong understanding of advanced machining practices, including setup, tooling selection, and precision machining methods.
• Good English communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective coordination with supervisors, QC, and workshop personnel.
• Competent in basic mathematical calculations related to machining measurements, tolerances, and dimensions.
• High level of attention to detail and strong commitment to producing high quality components
• QC experience in dimensional check - precision measuring equipments and checking of shaft TIR.
  
  

Experience

• Minimum 5 years of hands on experience operating a range of conventional machines, including manual lathe, horizontal and vertical boring machines, milling machines, and other workshop machining equipment.
• Strong background working in a workshop environment within the oil and gas industry, with solid understanding of industry standards, precision machining requirements, and quality expectations.
• Experience in a Middle Eastern workshop environment is highly preferred due to familiarity with regional work practices, operational demands, and compliance requirements.
• Previous work experience in Qatar is an added advantage and supports faster adaptation to local regulations, customer expectations, and internal workflow processes.
  
  

Education Requirements

• ITI / NCVT Certification in Machinist Trade. Preferably with extensive experience in a workshop environment within the oil and gas industry. Preferred candidate with a transferable visa in Qatar.
  
  

Physical Requirements

• Ability to remain standing and walking for extended periods throughout the workday while operating or attending to machinery.
• Sufficient manual dexterity and hand–eye coordination to safely operate machines, adjust tooling, handle components, and perform precision machining tasks.
• Capability to perform basic physical effort, including lifting, bending, reaching, and handling workshop materials and equipment as required by daily machining operations.
• Ability to work safely in a workshop environment, maintaining proper posture and using correct techniques to prevent strain or injury.
