Manufacturing Engineering Intern

Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY

TransMedics is transforming organ transplantation through the Organ Care System (OCS), a breakthrough platform that preserves and assesses donor organs outside the body. Our Manufacturing Engineering team plays a critical role in ensuring safe, efficient, and scalable production of both disposable and capital equipment systems.

The Manufacturing Engineering Intern will support production-related engineering activities associated with the manufacturing of the TransMedics Organ Care System. This role provides hands-on exposure to assembly processes, test systems, documentation control, and process validation within a regulated medical device environment.

The intern will work closely with Manufacturing Engineers and be paired with a dedicated mentor to ensure meaningful project ownership and professional development throughout the program.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position is responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

Manufacturing Process Support

  • Assist in manufacturing engineering activities supporting production of OCS systems
  • Learn and support both disposable and capital equipment manufacturing processes
  • Participate in process development, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Support assembly and test process optimization efforts

Documentation & Technical Support

  • Create and revise manufacturing documentation, including:
    • Manufacturing Instructions
    • Inspection Procedures
    • Test Protocols
    • Assembly Drawings and Component Drawings
  • Ensure documentation aligns with quality system and regulatory requirements
  • Support change implementation activities within production

Process Validation & Testing

  • Assist in development and execution of process validation plans
  • Support validation activities for new and existing manufacturing processes
  • Help analyze data from manufacturing and test equipment
  • Participate in root cause investigations and corrective actions when applicable

Team Collaboration

  • Work cross-functionally with Engineering, Quality, and Production teams
  • Serve as a strong team contributor while complying with all safety rules and regulations
  • Support supervisors and colleagues in day-to-day production engineering needs

  • The fundamentals of process validation and documentation control
  • Exposure to assembly, inspection, and test systems
  • Real-world application of SolidWorks in fixture and tooling development
  • Continuous improvement principles in a live production environment

MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES

This position does not have direct reports.

PHYSICAL ATTRIBUTES

  • General office environment where there is a significant amount of time at a desk, working on computers and reviewing documents. This requires the ability to sit for extended periods. They also may need to stand for meetings or when moving around the office.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Currently pursuing a BS in Engineering (in progress)
  • Major in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Biomedical, Industrial, Plastics Engineering, or related field
  • College Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, or Senior
  • Ability to use SolidWorks to support fixture design and development
  • Exposure to manufacturing engineering or process development (academic or internship) preferred
  • Familiarity with process validation concepts a plus
  • Strong work ethic and commitment to safety
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills
