Job Summary
The Office of Institutional Advancement at Philander Smith University seeks a creative and detail-oriented Marketing and Communication Coordinator. This position supports the development and implementation of marketing and communication strategies that advance the university’s mission, strengthen its brand, and engage key audiences, including prospective students, alums, donors, and community partners.
Reporting to the Vice President for Institutional Advancement, the Coordinator assists with content creation, campaign execution, and internal and external communications to ensure consistent and compelling messaging. The position plays a vital role in promoting the university’s programs, events, and initiatives while maintaining brand standards and enhancing public awareness.
RESPNSIBILITIES:
- Marketing Support: Assist in developing and executing marketing plans that promote university programs, events, and initiatives.
- Content Creation: Draft, edit, and design engaging content for digital and print platforms, including social media, newsletters, websites, press releases, and promotional materials.
- Brand Management: Ensure all marketing and communications materials adhere to the university’s branding and style guidelines.
- Digital Media Management: Maintain and update website and social media accounts; track engagement metrics and provide performance reports.
- Internal Communications: Support the development and distribution of internal communications that foster alignment and engagement among faculty, staff, and students.
- Event Promotion: Collaborate with departments to design and distribute marketing materials for campus events and special initiatives.
- Media Relations: Assist with preparing press releases and coordinating with local and regional media outlets as needed.
- Research and Analytics: Collect and analyze data to evaluate the effectiveness of marketing and communications efforts and recommend improvements.
- Administrative Support: Maintain project calendars, track deliverables, and ensure timely completion of assignments.
- Other Duties: Perform other related tasks as assigned to support the goals of the Office of Institutional Advancement.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field required.
- Equivalent experience in marketing, design, or communications may be considered.
Experience:
- Minimum of two years of experience in marketing, communications, or related roles, preferably in a higher education or nonprofit environment.
- Demonstrated experience with digital marketing and social media management.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong written, verbal, and visual communication skills.
- Proficiency with digital marketing tools, social media platforms, and analytics software.
- Experience using Canva and other content creation tools.
- Working knowledge of digital photography, videography, and basic graphic design principles.
- Ability to manage multiple projects with attention to detail and deadlines.
- Familiarity with media relations, public relations, and community engagement.
